The Go Waihi Warm Up Party is almost here again!
The Go Waihi Warm Up Party is almost here again — just three weeks to go until Wednesday 25 March, when this iconic Waihi tradition fires up for its 17th year. If you’ve been before, you’ll know the vibe: classic cars, great people, and a full day of colour and noise in the heart of Waihi.
Local and world-famous comedian Ben Hurley returns as MC again this year, keeping the laughs rolling and energy high alongside the engines.
Festivities kick off from around 10:30am as 300+ classic cars and hot rods roll in from Whangamatā, followed by a stirring opening haka from Waihi College students. From there, it’s straight into the action: Drag Race competitors assemble at 12:00pm, with racing expected to begin around 12:15pm.
Then at 1:00pm, it’s time to turn Seddon Street into a runway with the Fashion Show and Best Dressed Competition — a highlight every year, and one that always brings plenty of style, creativity, and surprise.
This is a big call-out to anyone thinking about getting involved: entries are open and we need competitors for both the Drag Race and the Fashion Show. With cash and other prizes up for grabs, there’s every reason to throw your hat in the ring — whether you’re backing your strength, your outfit, or both. Please email us your Drag Race team or Fashion Show entry at info@waihi.org.nz
On top of that, expect around 50 stalls serving a wide range of food, plus plenty of ’50s rock ’n’ roll memorabilia— from T-shirts and art to cowboy hats, jewellery, and clothing.
Come and enjoy the cars, the colour, the competition and the energy — and please support our local retailers and community. We look forward to seeing you all there.
