Creative Waihi

Creative Waihi

Creative Waihi's Trust Deed was signed in August 2007. Five trustees were appointed. They are: John Thomas (chair), Virginia Laing (secretary), Barry Magowan (treasurer), Sel Baker and Doreen McLeod.

They represent a diverse mix of arts interests and will provide a range of entrepreneurial and business skills to promote and support local creative arts.

Creative Waihi had a chance to display the work of some of its members when it staged 'ART X Pose' in the Memorial Hall and the town centre alongside the GO Waihi event, 'Made in Waihi'.

Big crowds took advantage of the free street entertainment which included the Newmont Waihi Gold-sponsored 'Busk-a-Bout' busking competition, vintage and classic cars on show and art and craft street stalls.

Creative art incorporates strands such as sculpture, painting, dance, theatre, textile crafts and music. The mission of Creative Waihi is to encourage and support individuals and groups and coordinate the promotion of their activities.

The trust looks forward to expanding it's membership and learning more about how it can provide its members with constructive support. To this end three members of Creative Waihi attended an arts conference in Rotorua recently to network with and hear from other people who are running community arts facilities.
