Update January 24

Posted by GO Waihi on 24/01/2019

And hello Anniversary Weekend, long may it last! Wherever you’re from we hope you have a great time in our backyard. It’s great to see the region’s still full of visitors enjoying the hospitality, scenery, activities and lifestyle we enjoy. Did I mention the fantastic weather this summer? There’s something for all tastes and time frames, and we’re a pretty friendly bunch to be honest.

NZ BLOOD NEEDS YOURS FOR WHO KNOWS WHO
If you’re in good health then why not donate an hour of your time and a little of your blood? Waihi Memorial Hall is the venue from midday to 4 pm on Tuesday 29 January for their blood drive. Ring and book an appointment on 0800 448 325 and then feel good about helping to save up to three lives. Remember your photo ID on the day.

ECHO - ENJOY CONNECTING HILLS AND OCEANS – WALKING FESTIVAL
Walk the walk and talk the talk is a good description. Guides will take you and talk you through the history surrounding the walk. ECHO Walking Festival is on between April 6 and 28 and it’s free too, unless there’s a charge for transport of course. A good selection of walks around the Coromandel, Matamata-Piako, Western Bays and Hauraki are starting to fill up so get a flyer, check the website and book early online for your favourites. Some can’t be done at any other time so don’t miss out. There are short, medium and long walks for all ages and fitness levels.

PICTURE THIS – ART ON DISPLAY & FOR SALE EXPO
Ok, you’ve got the idea. It’s a great outing rain, hail or shine with Studio Art Waihi’s annual Exhibition in Waihi Memorial Hall. Dates are Friday 25 to Monday 28 January and a gold coin is the entry fee. All art’s for sale, there are woodturners turning wood and talking to the public and they have a raffle or two to be won. Anytime between 10 am and 4 pm is a good time to visit.

WAIHI DRAMA SOCIETY BURSTS THEIR BUBBLE
Here’s something a little different. On Thursday February 14 at The Theatre in Boyd Rd The Bubble Show will be on, with a unique blend of magic, storytelling and lots of bubble art. Starting at 4 pm it’s $16 for adults and $10 for the kids. And at 5.15 pm there’s a workshop for anyone 5 years and older for $10.

WAIHI’S WARM UP PARTY FOR BEACH HOP GEARING UP
We’ve had some great days kicking off the five day Beach Hop event over the last decade, with the five day Ultimate Ticket holders coming en masse from Whangamata for a fun day in Waihi. Set aside Wednesday 27 March this year and come for the day. There’ll be lots of hot rods and classic cars, as you’d expect, and we add tons of stalls through downtown to add to the shops and what they have on sale with food and refreshments aplenty. Dress for the Best Dressed Male and Female Competition and dance your rock & roll socks off with the live bands playing through the town. You’ve officially been invited.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: If you’re still looking for that one person who will change your life, take a look in the mirror.
