Update September 13

Posted by GO Waihi on 13/09/2018

The great outdoors beckons with some awesome weather lately. If the powers that be can keep working on bringing the best stuff across the weekends would be appreciated so the majority of us can enjoy it! The garden’s getting cleared, lawns are being mown, washing’s on the line rather than on a clothes horse, the shorts are out and the first swim of the season is… well we’ll leave that for another weekend, but it’s definitely not far away! Want something to do? Then read on, there’s plenty on offer around our place.

Whiritoa Voluntary Rural Fire Force doesn’t just attend fires but also crashes and flooding incidents. They need your support at their AGM. Starting at 10.30 this Sunday morning, September 16, at Whiritoa Community Hall they’d love as many people along to hear about their first year with Fire & Emergency New Zealand, the water supply for the Fire Force, the continuing role of the Society as well as volunteering to join the Force. Electing of officers and management committee members is pretty important too.

Waihi Beach School’s annual Over the Top Fun Run is on next Saturday, 22 September. Based at Brighton Park there’s a real carnival atmosphere shaping up from 9 am with lots of stalls, a bouncy castle, entertainment, food and refreshments and three options for the walks / runs / hike. 3 km’s, 6 km’s or 10 km’s are your choices. Entry forms and details are at www.tridentresults.com and the school.

Kerepehi Brass Band’s combining with the Katikati Concert Band for a concert at Waihi Salvation Army hall on Sunday, 23 September. Starting at 2 pm, entry’s a donation and a variety of musical styles will be to the fore. No doubt they’ll ‘string’ a few sing along songs together too.

I’ve said for decades, if every New Zealander picked up just one piece of rubbish a day, we’d have a lot cleaner, greener countryside. Now here’s a way to get involved. Keep Waihi Beautiful is having a big clean up this Sunday 16th September as part of Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s National Clean Up Week. Start from your house, or a place you think needs a tidy up, and clean your way into town for a free BBQ and prizes at 12pm at the Memorial Hall. Judges from Keep New Zealand Beautiful arrive a few days later to judge Waihi on the Most Beautiful Small Town category!

Tickets are selling fast for Waihi Lions Evening with Elvis fundraiser for Waihi St John’s Building Fund on Saturday 29 September. They’re just $55 or a table of 8 for $400, and are at Dillimores Furnishings, Waihi Beach Chemist, HDC Waihi office and St John’s Op Shop in Silverton Rd. GO Waihi’s Trolley Derby and Market Day on Saturday October 6 is coming together with brass and jazz bands, a recycled fashion show for kids and stalls galore. Applications and entry forms for stalls and trolleys are at the HDC Waihi office, Gold FM, at www.waihi.org.nz or email GO Waihi for one.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: When uncertain, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.
