Update October 31

Posted by GO Waihi on 31/10/2018

All the best for the NCEA exams coming up in just a few days, last minute study might earn you an extra credit or three so put the hard yards (or is that metres?) in now. The countdown’s on to Christmas too, just seven weeks and six days away. Good luck to the All Blacks and Kiwi League side with games this weekend and huge congrats to the Thames Valley SwampFoxes winning the Meads Cup in the Heartland Competition, a fantastic result.

Tuesday 13 November is the day someone will win the GO Waihi Stop, Shop and Win Pot of Gold Promotion. If you’ve shopped locally in Waihi through Goldfest in October and entered the draw, the best of luck, it could be you that wins the 1,000 $1 coins. The draw is at 8.40 am on Gold FM with the police. The more you shopped locally at participating stores the more chances you have of winning a nice little nest egg. Good luck.

This Sunday between 10 am and 3 pm is the 3rd annual Waihi Vegetarian Festival at the International Academy in Landlyst Rd, just on the outskirts of Waihi. It’s a fun day filled with food for sale and cooking demonstrations. There’ll be entertainment and crafts too. There’s an art exhibition along with music, and entry’s free.

Entries are open for Saturday November 10 at the Waihi A & P Showgrounds. Stall sites are still available too. Contact Marilyn at 07 863 8243 or email marilyn@ktd.co.nz. Entry’s just $12 for the family or $5 for adults and $2 for children, under 5’s are free, and $2 gets you a carpark next door. There’ll be horse events for all levels and abilities, an Alpaca display, kid goat and pet lambs sections, pony and donkey rides, food and refreshments, stalls, a magician and a $200 lucky gate draw at 2.30 pm. Events start at 9.30 am. Head to the end of the palms on Parry Palm Ave and you’re there.

This is something you shouldn’t miss, with several events on and coming up. There’s a fantastic display in the Waihi Memorial Hall, a Young People’s Day on November 9, and lots happening on the 11th, Armistice Day itself, that you can get involved in. Full details coming soon, including celebrating the hall’s 60th birthday.

The Lions Club of Waihi Garden Ramble is set for Saturday and Sunday November 24 and 25. With 14 gardens on display there’s bound to be some great ideas to inspire you. There’ll be refreshments available, gardening items for sale and arts and crafts too. Tickets are $20 and available at Waihi Beach Hardware, Mitre 10 Waihi and Country Dog Garden Centre in Paeroa.

Santa Claus is coming to town, along with the pipe band and hopefully lots of other floats to make up another GO Waihi Christmas Parade on Saturday 8 December. With the Christmas Market in the morning it’s an ideal time to get downtown, do some shopping, get something to eat and then enjoy all the floats. Mind you, if you want a stall or enter a float then get a form off our website. They’ll be up on Monday and also available at HDC’s Waihi office in Rosemont Rd and at Gold FM too. Or email us and we’ll send one out. Let’s make it a busy, fun day.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.
