With daylight saving back the next countdown is to the first public holiday in too long, Labour Weekend. Two weeks from now and the three day weekend will see an influx to our backyard, New Zealand’s holiday capital. With school holidays in full swing it’s great to see people getting out and enjoying some of the events on with Goldfest 2018. There’s plenty on, including tomorrow.
BIG DAY LOTS OF FUN SATURDAY IN WAIHI
GO Waihi‘s annual Goldfest Market Day and Trolley Derby is on Saturday with OceanaGold and Alton Drilling; here’s a rundown. By 9 am all the stalls will be ‘open for business’, along with shops with sales and specials. Through the day visit the Supper Room at the Memorial Hall and check out all the model boats and trains on display with the Waihi Model Boat Club and friends. The Kerepehi Brass Band will entertain you from around 9.30 am in front of the Memorial Hall while the Kati Katz Dixieland Jazz Band plays through town in different spots. And at 10.15 am it’s the Fun Children’s Recycled Fashion Show in front of the Memorial Hall. There’ll be food and refreshments and plenty to keep you entertained … then at midday …
GO WAIHI TROLLEY DERBY SATURDAY FROM MIDDAY
In association with Waihi Lions and Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club it’s all on from 12 noon with trolleys heading down Haszard St swinging into the main CBD to the finish line. There are classes for boys, girls, men and women and an open class for trolleys with attitude. Entry forms are on our website, at Gold FM at 17 Haszard St and at HDC’s Waihi Library. Fun with a capital F is what it’s all about, and it’s free to enter. Come along and watch and cheer the brave hearted competitors along. And please make sure you and the family are safe by being well back from the track.
GOLDFEST GOES BOATING
Boats on Gilmour tomorrow from 10 am is a combined club day with all sorts of amazing craft at Gilmour Lake for most of the day coming from Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton and the region. These can be 2 to 3 metre scale models of launches, warships, schooners, steamboats, ketches and yachts and more. Talk to the enthusiasts and take a picnic to enjoy at Gilmour Lake.
GOLDFEST THROUGH THE WEEK
Get a programme and get involved. There are lots of things on for students and adults across the month. From Waihi Waterlily Gardens Grand Opening to activities for kids through the holidays, it’s all on with lots on for free, or just a small fee. Programmes are around town at lots of shops and on our website.
COUNTING DOWN COUNTING UP CRUNCHIES
Entries close on Monday 15 October for the Guess the Number of Crunchie Bars Competiton with GO Waihi and New World Waihi. With $100, $75 and $50 New World vouchers for the three closest guesses it’s worth a bit of time looking in all the shop windows through Waihi town, and the exercise is a bonus! Details are on our web.
COUNT ON SAVING WITH THIS BUDGET COURSE
Waihi Budgeting Service is hosting Budget For Success, an eight week free course for all ages and income brackets featuring guest speakers, hands on activities and more. If you’d like to learn how to manage your income call in and see them in Haszard St or phone 07 863 7793.
HERE’S A THOUGHT: It’s a dangerous exercise jumping to conclusions.
