Hi and welcome to paradise. Some of us live it, others visit – either way GO Waihi hopes you enjoy your time in our neighbourhood. Labour Weekend is traditionally a busy time so take your time travelling, enjoy your extra time off and make the most of time with family, friends and loved ones. We’ve got several events across the weekend for all ages and more on the way with GO Waihi’s Goldfest across October in association with OceanaGold, Alton Drilling and Gold FM. Details are below.

GARAGE SALE SATURDAY
St Vincent de Paul is raising funds with a Garage Sale Saturday (20 Oct) from 8 am in Johnston St, opposite St John’s. Get in early for bric-a-brac, furniture, household goods, beds, dressing table, clothing and more.

ART WAIKINO – SIX CATEGORIES THIS YEAR
Art, sculpture, photography, photography of people and craft are the mainstay categories for Art Waikino at Victoria Hall. And this year commemorating 100 years since WWI there’s the Armistice Day Centennial Special Award for an original work in any medium. All art is on display and for sale with funds for the upkeep of the hall. A gold coin gets you in anytime Saturday to Monday between 10 am and 4 pm.

FOOTBALL TOURNY SATURDAY & SUNDAY
Waihi Association Football Club’s annual 2-day tournament is on Saturday and Sunday (20 & 21 Oct) with seven teams competing in lots of shortened games along with a get-together on Saturday night. It’s a great way to wrap up the season and also good to get along and enjoy sideline, head to Waihi College from about 9.30 am both days.

DIG FOR PRIZES
The Big Beach Dig on Sunday (21 Oct) at 2 pm will be lots of fun for years 1 to 10. Hosted by Waihi Beach Christian Centre for free, it’s held in front of the surf club at the northern end of Waihi Beach. Hands and feet only!

FAMILY FUN DAY MONDAY
Waterlily Gardens Grand Opening at 441 Pukekauri Rd Waihi is on from 10.30 am Labour Day Monday – yes a day off – with live music, bouncy castle, face painting, the café will be open and there’s a spit roast, classic cars, an artisan market and 15 acres of beautiful grounds. Take the family and some friends. Free entry’s a bonus.

VOLUNTEER GROUPS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Volunteer Expo is on this Wednesday, Oct 31. Waihi Memorial Hall will be full of volunteer groups, showing you who they are and what they do. Head along from 2 pm to 7 pm to talk with the different groups, find out more about them and see what they do in our community.

VEGETARIAN FESTIVAL & MORE
Sunday 4 November the International Academy in Landlyst Rd Waihi invites you to their Vegetarian Festival, a day full of food, entertainment, music, demonstrations, arts and craft and more. Great for everyone, it’s free entry and on between 10 am and 3 pm.

WIN THE $1000 POT OF GOLD
Shop in participating shops around Waihi to be in to win the 1000 $1 coins GO Waihi’s giving away with the Stop, Shop and Win Pot of Gold Promotion. Running to the end of October, the more you shop locally in stores taking part the more chances you have of winning. Just put your name and contact details on your receipt and put it in the box on the counter and we’ll do a draw on Tuesday 13 November. Good luck.
