Update November 30

Posted by GO Waihi on 30/11/2018

Hey is anybody counting? Christmas is sneaking up and Santa is ready to head down under again and we’ve only got 25 more sleeps to go. We’re just a week away from an early visit from the jolly man in red, Mrs Claus, several elves and possibly Rudolf too with Waihi’s Christmas Parade and Market Day next Saturday. Details are below. That’s about it for senior exams, it’s summer holidays and planning for 2019 now. And unofficially we’re welcoming summer in tomorrow, with the longest day around December 22. Wondering what to do over summer? Keep an eye on our website and facebook pages for a few ideas around our neighbourhood, New Zealand’s holiday capital.

We’re making it easy to shop for Christmas, and any other time too, with our Christmas Market Day from 9.30 am next Saturday, December 8, through the centre of Waihi. There’s free parking, lots of shops with that small town friendly service and talk about variety and choice. We’re the Boutique Mall Without Walls with everything for everyone – well almost. And you won’t go hungry with a fantastic mix of cafes, restaurants and eateries. Id Izwadda Iz, a four piece local band of young guys, is set to entertain in front of the Memorial Hall, and we have some Dixieland jazz happening in Rosemont Rd and upper Seddon St too. Waihi Lions will be spinning their raffle wheel with some great prizes and there’s a good mix of stalls to add to what the shops have on offer. Keep an eye out for Mrs Claus too.

With a ho, ho, ho it’s away we go next Saturday December 8 downtown in Waihi with the annual GO Waihi Christmas Parade at 1 pm in association with Harcourts Gold Star Real Estate. Bagpipes will sound the parade in and then it’s all go up and down Seddon St with all the floats. Come along and cheer them on, get into the Christmas spirit and have a good time.

If you want to enter a float get an entry form from HDC’s Waihi office in Rosemont Rd, Gold FM on the corner of Seddon and Haszard Streets or from our website, and get it back ASAP.

Submissions on the proposed rule changes on permissible size of subdivision and development standards, a reduction in the minimum lot area for ‘infill’ subdivision and more close at 4 pm today, so if you want to keep in the loop go to www.hauraki-dc.govt.nz and fill in a submission form so you can then make a further submission during the process. And the Whiritoa Library AGM is this Tuesday, December 4, at 10.30 am in the library. If you’ve got any issues or ideas you can share them there.

The Waihi Masonic Lodge Annual Garage Sale next Saturday, December 8, starts at 8 am on Kenny St, by SH2 (Rosemont Rd). They’ve got all sorts of things for you to browse and buy. All money raised goes back into the local community too, so support them and grab some bargains. And if you have something in good nick you’d like to donate, call them on 07 863 7574 and they’ll happily add it into the mix, ready for another good home.
