A few showers later and we came out the other side, let’s call it spring! But not for long with summer approaching rapidly and the longest day just over a month away … and a few days later it’s Christmas! We’ve got details below of Waihi’s Christmas Parade and how you can enter a float and apply for a stall for the Christmas Market Day on December 8th. I was just thinking, for the hard to buy person this Christmas, why not get a half a kilo of butter; it’s not cheap, it’s very versatile and even if they already have one, they’ll need another one at some stage. Just thinking.
GARDENS TO THE ‘FOUR’ THIS WEEKEND – ACTUALLY TO THE ‘FOUR’TEEN
A slight typo on purpose to alert you that Saturday and Sunday this weekend you can get a $20 ticket from Waihi Beach Hardware, Mitre 10 in Waihi and Country Dog Garden Centre in Paeroa and enjoy a stroll in the 14 gardens of these kind folk who have opened their gardens for Waihi Lions Garden Ramble. Take your time, take a notebook and take a friend or three to enjoy, learn, become inspired and help the Lions raise funds for their Centennial Project. Food will be for sale, there’ll be garden books and tools too, arts and crafts and lots of advice, information and encouragement.
KARANGAHAKE HALL MARKET NOVEMBER EDITION COMING UP
These market days are always popular, with all sorts of things for sale. Produce fresh from the garden, preserves, collectibles, toys, crafts, books, jewellery and lots more will be on sale in the new hall this Sunday between 9 am and 2 pm, and they’ll have baking too. $10 gets you a site and you can contact either Moira on 07 8629233 or Dawn 07 8627452 for details.
STALL CALL FOR WAIHI’S MALL WITHOUT WALLS
As part of the Christmas Market Day we like to brighten the main shopping centre with stalls combined with the shops and their wares on show. Got something they haven’t? Want to be part of a fun day? Then get in touch with GO Waihi for an application form. Set for Saturday December 8 it’s always a great day downtown with sales and specials, music and entertainment, lots of cafes and eateries to satisfy almost everyone and hopefully you’ll be there! Call or email GO Waihi, check our website or call in to the HDC Waihi Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Rd, fill it out and get it back to us soon.
PARTICIPATION AND ANTICIPATION
It’s a bit of both with the GO Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourts Gold Star Real Estate Waihi at 1 pm on Saturday 8 December. Floats of all shapes and sizes are pretty important to take part, whether it’s on the back of a truck, a trailer or walking. And the crowd watching is part of the participation too. Anticipation is the countdown to the day and also the kids waiting for Santa Claus in the last float. It’s a great family day downtown in Waihi from 9.30 am to about 2 pm and one the kids will remember for a long time.
SCHOOL GALA TIME
Raising funds for their school camp has Waihi East School holding a twilight fair on Thursday 6 December. Get along from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm for cakes and sweets, Christmas decorations and gifts, bric a brac, raffles and silent auctions, carnival stalls, food and refreshments. That should keep you busy.
HERE’S A THOUGHT: Today’s the day for decisive action! Or is it?
