Update March 23

Posted by GO Waihi on 23/03/2018

It’s been a busy week around the Waihi region with Beach Hop cars anywhere south of the Bombays passing through. Lots stopped off on Wednesday for Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach, we hope you enjoyed your time. Come back soon and enjoy more of what you got just a smidgeon of soon. We better make the most of the last weekend of daylight saving, Easter Sunday and it’s wind the clocks and watch back time! And I guess you’re looking seriously at a slight increase in intake of chocolate. Best be prepared eh. Did I mention hot crossed buns? Grab a brew and let’s see what’s what around Waihi.

THANKS , YOU GUYS ROCK … AND ROLL
We’re pleased to kick off Beach Hop with Waihi’s Warm Up Party kicking off day one on Wednesday. It’s meant to be a fun day full of cars, entertainment, music and dancing, sales and sights, plenty of food and refreshments and lots of happy people. Hey, we didn’t do too badly. The big thanks goes to everyone who turned up and enjoyed themselves, you’re awesome. Then there’re those who do the jobs behind the scenes, fantastic. Big ups to the car owners for taking the trouble, spit and polish to show off their pride and joy too. And the sponsors support is so appreciated. Thanks to OceanaGold, Alton Drilling, Hauraki District Council and Gold FM for getting in behind our biggest day of the year around here, it’s really appreciated. I’ll have more of a wrap up next week when the dust settles but just wanted to get underway.

THE WINNERS LISTS COMING UP
We’ll have a full rundown of prize winners next week. There were the best dressed man, woman, boy and girl winners, the Gold FM Drag Race winners and the Best Hot Rod and Classic Car Trophies. Who won what? Check out our column next week.

GOT ROOM FOR A 49” PANASONIC VIERA FLAT SCREEN LED TV?
I hope you were snap happy on Wednesday. Check your photos and pick your best pics that show a little Waihi off somehow at our Warm Up Party for Beach Hop. The prize is a beaut. Send your entries to GO Waihi; by email to info@waihi.org.nz (1 photo per email) or put them on a disc or memory stick and post to PO Box 34, Waihi 3641. Or drop them off to Gold FM on the corner of Seddon and Haszard Streets. Close off is Monday April 16 and it’s open to amateur photographers. Judges decision is final.

BUSINESS AFTER 5 WORTH ATTENDING
An early April BA5 is coming up on Thursday next week with OceanGold the hosts. Yes, March 29. We’ll get to hear the latest on what they’re up to. The venue was not decided when I wrote this, but if you’re a Waihi business owner or manager and would like to go register with GO Waihi by email or phone and I’ll keep you up to date. Contact details are below.

TAKE A WALK, A STROLL, STRETCH THE LEGS
ECHO Walking Festival is fast approaching. It’s an ideal time to beat the feet and get out in amongst our nature clad hills, beautiful seas and sands, and even the occasional mud flat. Free walks with guides! From a grade one easy walk for an hour to something designed for seasoned trampers that will take a full day, there are around 30 walks from the Coromandel to the Kaimai’s on the list. Find the walk list and descriptions at echowalkfest.org.nz and register there, on line. Some are filling up and lots are only available in this two and a bit week window between April 7 and 22. I challenge you to do at least one, or two … maybe three??

WHIRITOA COMMUNITY DIRECTORY GOT YOUR NUMBER?
Locals in Whiritoa should confirm their contact details are correct for this publication, and newbies to town can get your details included too by heading to either the Whiritoa shop or library and filling in the gaps on the list. It doesn’t replace the phone book but is very handy in urgent situations to contact you about your property, or if there’s a Civil Defence emergency. Listings close at Easter.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: You know you’re a worry when you buy a police scanner so you can keep up with your relatives.
