Update February 9

Posted by GO Waihi on 09/02/2018

I hope you enjoyed Waitangi Day. It’s unique to New Zealand and something we should learn more about and celebrate as a nation. Whether you get along to commemorations or just take a moment to think about where we are today and how we got here it’s worth the effort. They tell us the muggy conditions are a thing of the past … for the moment. I’m making the most of the early, not as early as a month ago, sunrises and the later, not as late as in January, sunsets and getting outside as much as possible before those that moan start on how there’re not enough daylight hours. The next public holiday is Easter at the end of March and I for one am looking forward to it.

FOOTY MUSTER A MUST – WELL ‘ALMUST’
Waihi Association Football Club’s Muster for the season is on this Saturday afternoon at 3 pm at Morgan Park. Current and new players are welcome. Take your boots, blades or trainers along for a kick around too. And they’re keen to hear from women to get a ladies team together. For more information contact Matty on 027 243 0135.

‘THIS IS ME’ IS FOR YOU
This festival timed for next Saturday, February 17 is going to be a great day to find out about lots of ways to get some exercise, in a variety of forms. From sport clubs to yoga there’s a myriad of ways to ‘burn the fat’, keep fit, trim down, tone up, focus on yourself and that inner mindset and even win an iphone 6. There’ll be demonstrations, a chance to have a go, food stalls, lots of groups with information and know-how and even spot prizes and giveaways. Sport Waikato and Waihi Sport N Action invite women, girls and families along between 10 am and 1 pm to Morgan Park off Kenny St for this free event. Check details at thisisme.org.nz.

LIONS DIRECTORY V2 IS OUT AND READY FOR ACTION
Back from the printers the new 2018/2019 phone book with a difference is available through town now. They have phone numbers, addresses and details about most of the businesses and people in the Waihi, Waihi Beach, Bowentown and Athenree areas in there, along with maps for all the areas they cover. It’s just $2 and a great fundraiser for the Waihi Lions. If you bought a V1 then take it in and you can replace it with the updated V2 free. This is the easy to read, big print version that’s handy to have; the only one you’ll need for all those local contact details.

CIRCUS AOTEAROA UNDER THE BIG TOP IN WAIHI

Saturday 17th there are shows at 11 am and 7.30 pm and Sunday Feb 18 the show’s at 2 pm. An hour and a half plus it’s a great show under the classic big top. No eftpos but cash is good. MUDDYING WATERS ON PURPOSE
Waihi Scouts are gearing up for a fun day in the sun ... and in the mud. So if it rains it won’t matter. Their annual Mudslide Day is coming up on Saturday 3 March. It’s a great fundraiser with hundreds of people, not just kids either, giving the three slides a go, along with the mud obstacle course and the rope bridge challenge of course. Old clothes and shoes, a change, $5 and some cash for refreshments and you’re set. Head south from Waihi just past the beach turnoff and look for the signs on the right of SH2 beside the gun club. Park at the end of the long driveway and start sliding your way around between 9.30 am and 3 pm.
