Update December 6

Posted by GO Waihi on 06/12/2018

And here’s the fine weather we’ve been talking about, just in time for GO Waihi’s Christmas market Day and Parade. Santa’s sooooo happy! We’ve got lots of reasons for you to be in Waihi this Saturday in the column below. Sunscreen should be on the list, along with a hat, actually there are a couple of good Christmas gift suggestions come to think of it. Shorts seem to be taking over and it’s not before time. And here’s another ‘gentil’ reminder – get your vehicle serviced, tyre pressure’s important and so are the warrant and rego. There’s nothing worse than loading up with the family and friends along with the luggage only to break down, probably in the worst place over the Christmas and summer break.

A good way to start the day is to head to their Lodge on the corner of Kenny St and Rosemont Rd (SH2). The signs will be out early for an 8 am start for their annual Garage Sale. You never know what they have up for grabs with lots of donations of things worthy of a second home on sale. All money raised goes back into the local community too, so support them and grab some bargains at the start of the day. Sadly this will be their last Christmas Garage Sale as they prepare to close their doors.

Where do you start with a gift for that ‘hard to buy for’ person? That’s easy, downtown Saturday in Waihi at the Christmas Market Day. There’ll be plenty of ideas in and outside lots of the shops in Waihi’s Mall Without Walls, in the main shopping centre. Add stalls with even more choice and your pretty well sorted. Waihi Lions have some great raffles for hams and all sorts sorted across the morning and enjoy the music in front of the Waihi Memorial Hall with Id Izzwadda Iz, a local bunch of guys keen to entertain you. And there’s some Dixieland Jazz happening in Rosemont Rd and upper Seddon St too. It’s a great start to a fantastic day in Waihi so come along and get into the festive spirit, get your shopping for Christmas done and enjoy the Christmas Parade while you’re there.

With the GO Waihi Christmas Parade in association with Harcourts Gold Star Real Estate at 1 pm Saturday Santa’s been busy shining Rudolf’s nose, sorting the sleigh and making sure the seat belt is ‘just right’ for Mrs Claus. Join the crowd downtown and cheer on all the floats as they travel from the bottom of town to the top and back down again. It’s always a great spectacle, and one of those lifetime memories. As always we remind people to keep an eye on the children, safety is paramount. There are some great floats entered and there’s still time to tinsel up something and join in. Entry forms are on line and email it back, or bring it along. Get into the spirit and be part of a fantastic community day.

ECHO Walking Festival is synonymous with health, the outdoors, stretching your legs, visiting places you haven’t been before, hearing about the history of the walk you’re on, and enjoying our beautiful backyard. Most walks are free, all are guided and the brochure will let you know which walk goes where, when, what to expect, how hard or easy, where to meet and how to book. I’ll let you know when the brochure is out.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: Plan ahead – it wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
