Update August 30

Posted by GO Waihi on 30/08/2018

All the best to Dad on Father’s Day this Sunday. Whatever you get up to I hope it’s a memorable one for all the right reasons. One month and we’re counting down to daylight saving returning, on the last Sunday of September. That happens to be the 30th, the last day of the month. The hum of the weekend lawnmower has been on the increase lately, could it be the spring weather making the grass grow faster? And how’s the hayfever?

BUSINESS CATCH UP AND UPDATE
GO Waihi was set up in 1997 by the Waihi business community and ratepayers to promote Waihi as a great place to live, work and visit. GO Waihi invites Waihi business owners and managers to hear the latest about what we’re doing, why and sometimes, why not. GO Waihi will give you some background about where we are at and where to from here. The meeting is this Wednesday, September 5, at the Salvation Army hall at the top of Seddon St just after 5 pm. Come along and hear what’s happening with GO Waihi.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: HAY BALES FOR RACE TRACK NEEDED
To make sure spectators and the trolleys are safe when they head down the race track, Waihi Lions would like to borrow about 60 rectangular hay bales for the GO Waihi Trolley Derby with Waihi Lions and Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club. It’s happening on Saturday 6 October and they’re happy to pick up and drop them off afterwards. Contact is Kevin on 07 863 5730, or get in touch with me.

SUSPICIOUS MINDS, IN THE GHETTO, JAILHOUSE ROCK, RETURN TO SENDER
Hound Dog, Blue Suede Shoes, Always On My Mind, Burning Love, Love Me Tender, Can’t Help Falling In Love – all huge hits for Elvis Presley that you might hear on Saturday 29 September when Waihi Lions present “An Evening With Elvis". Featuring top Elvis impersonator Che Orton at Waihi Beach Community Centre, it’s their fundraiser for Waihi St John’s new building project, so grab a ticket for $55 or a table of 8 for $400 and get ready for dinner, dancing and auctions too. They’re available at Dillimores, St John Op Shop, Waihi Beach Chemist and HDC’s Waihi office.

JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO GO
Art Waikino is on across Labour weekend, in about 8 weeks. Entries close on October 12. With six categories there’s got to be an art form to suit your creative skills. Get an entry form from around town, at our website or email artwaikino@gmail.com. All art will be on display and for sale at Waikino Victoria Hall, which is what the money raised goes towards the upkeep of, on Saturday to Monday October 20 to 22 from 10 am to 4 pm daily.

THIS FUN RUN’S OVER THE TOP
Waihi Beach School's Over the Top Fun Run returns on Saturday, 22nd September. Run or walk, and choose between the 3 km, 6 km or 10 km options, all based out of Brighton Park at Waihi Beach. There’s a flat course, a few hills course and the full on over the top course of course, so everyone’s catered for. Contact the school for registration details.
