Here we are at the start of another month, and 2018 is looming up pretty quickly. With Labour Weekend behind us we now focus on those long weekends through Christmas and New Year, well I do. It’ll sneak up quickly too. Hopefully, we can enjoy some good spring weather that allows more time outdoors for jobs and relaxing, sooner rather than later. We’re closing in on the end of Goldfest 2017 around Waihi, but don’t think it’s all over. There’s a good event to wrap things up tomorrow to welcome Waihi’s new rainbow and we have a couple of competitions to announce winners of. Check out the details below.
WAIHI’S WELCOME OVER THE RAINBOW
After postponing last Saturday, Waihi’s Welcome to the Rainbow is on Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm at Victoria Park, Rocket Park to locals, along Parry Palm Ave on SH2. GO Waihi will get some sausages cooking on the BBQ, you can get the kids faces painted, meet Pooh Bear and Tigger and there’ll be some rock hunting with prizes from Rainbow’s End, Goldfields Railway, Spikes Bricks and Models and Gold Discovery Centre and lots of prizes for children from Resenes Paints too. And at 11.30 am we’ll get to say thanks to those people and businesses that helped with the project to get the Rainbow here too.
AND THE WINNERS ARE …
We had 293 Crunchie bars through over 50 shop windows downtown in Waihi with the GO Waihi Guess the Number of Crunchie Bars Competition with New World Waihi. Lowest was 1, yes 1, and the highest ‘guestimate’ was 345. We had entries from Warkworth and Kaukapakapa to Lower Hutt and Dunedin with lots of locals too. We had several guess the exact number so we did a draw. Congratulations to the three prize winners – first 7-year-old Hineira Pio-Ainsley who won the $100 voucher to New World Waihi, second Katie Twidle 8 from Waihi Beach won the $75 voucher and third was Charlize Moore who won the $50 voucher. And they all got some Crunchie bars too.
WAIHI’S ANNUAL A & P SHOW COMING UP
This is always a great day for all, whether from town or country. Cows, sheep, alpacas, Arabian horses, goats, bulls and lots of people all come together for the day next Saturday 11 November at Waihi’s A & P Showgrounds along Parry Palm Ave (SH2). $5 for adults, $2 for children and $12 for the family is great value. There’ll be stalls, a magician, food and refreshments, donkey rides, a petting zoo and lots of very proud owners of animals competing. For a schedule or to have a stall contact the secretary Marilyn. Email email@example.com or phone 07 863 8243.
GO WAIHI POT OF GOLD AND SHOT OF GOLD DRAW DATES
We’ve got two draws coming up to wrap up Goldfest 2017. First will be the Shot of Gold Promotion. If you sent a photo of the new Rainbow at Rocket Park to GO Waihi next Friday November 10 at 7.40 am is when we announce the winners of some great prizes of family passes to Rainbow’s End, Gold Discovery Centre, Spikes Bricks and Models and Goldfields Railway. Then on Tuesday, November 14 at 8.40 am the police will draw a lucky winner of 1,000 $1 coins, yes $1,000 cash with the Stop, Shop and Win Pot of Gold Promotion for Goldfest. Good luck for both draws. We’ll be in touch with winners and put them up on our website too.
50 AND FABULOUS PLAY IS ON NOW
The rehearsals are over and Waihi Drama Society’s season of Fifty & Fabulous is on now. Based in the 60’s five fabulous friends who’ve kept in touch since school are approaching 50 and after the cancellation of a singing group suddenly find themselves putting on a musical spectacular. It’s a great storyline with lots of humour and music. Evening shows are Friday and Saturday and next week on Thursday to Saturday starting at 7.30 pm. There are also matinees at 2 pm this and next Sunday, all shows are $20. For tickets and details go to www.waihidramasociety.co.nz.
WAIHI’S VEGETARIAN FESTIVAL COMING SOON
Based at the International Academy this is a fantastic day for all, meat eaters too. With over 40 stalls, music, cooking demos and crafts it’s worth allowing a bit of time to browse. More details next week but stick this one in your diary for Sunday 19 November.
SANTA SET FOR WAIHI’S CHRISTMAS PARADE
Mr and Mrs Claus, several elves, Rudolph and a number of reindeer have all booked in for Waihi’s annual GO Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourts Waihi on Saturday 9 December. Entry forms for floats will be out next week and if you’d like a stall at the Christmas Market Day they’re on the website now. Schools, preschools, clubs, groups, churches, sports teams and individuals, this is your invitation. Market Day starts at 9 am with the parade at 1 pm. Santa says he’s ho ho hoping for a good turnout and great weather.
