The end is nigh ... for the financial year that is. A pinch and punch for the start of another month, and there goes a sixth of 2017. Let’s make the most of the next 10 months and get along to events being put on, take some time to enjoy our unique part of the world and I guess start thinking about Christmas; presents and what we’re doing with holidays. Things are ticking along nicely towards Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop and we’ve got this weekend covered for kids, and adults too. Grab a hot brew and let’s see what’s happening.
SATURDAY IS FUN IN THE MUD DAY
Throw away those inhibitions and challenge yourself with Waihi Scouts annual Mudslide Day. Running from 9.30 am to 3 pm Saturday you can wallow, slide and get stuck in, and wash off, the mud. Three mudslides is a good starter, backed up by the mud obstacle course and then the rope bridge to drop off into the stream. Then repeat the exercise. Changing tents supplied, food and refreshments available so take a little extra cash, cook a sausage the scouts way over an open fire (yes they have the permit) and help the scouts raise funds. $5 entry and it’s on the right about a km past the Waihi Beach turnoff on SH2, just south of Waihi. Spectators are welcome too.
SUNDAY’S CHILDRENS DAY, & A CHALLENGE FOR KIDS
Waihi Sport N Action’s Junior Survivor has it all – slippery slide, obstacles to go over and under, the fireman’s foam and a fun run, all rolled into one. Starting at 10 am there are categories from under 5’s to 13 year olds and it’s just $10 to enter, with family concessions $30. Waihi Rugby ground on Kenny St is the venue and a change of clothes wouldn’t be a silly idea. Register at the Waihi Event Centre today or on site tomorrow from 9.15 am.
WAIHI HACK & HUNTERS RECYCLED RIBBON DAY NEXT SATURDAY (March 11)
Waihi A & P Showgrounds is the venue for this event and you’re invited, for free. Easy to find along Parry Palm Ave, or SH2, heading towards Karangahake Gorge, the day starts at 9.30 am with in hand and ridden categories in the pony and hack rings. Food and refreshments are available. Good luck if you’re entering. For last minute entries contact Jeannine on 021 172 7507.
WALKS AND TALKS COMING WITH ECHO WALKING FESTIVAL
Most walks are free, they’re all guided and lots are on our back doorstep. Running from April 1 to 23 this coincides with a) the school holidays, b) Easter and c) good weather hopefully. From an hour’s casual walk for a family to a challenge for experienced trampers forwarding streams, there are some unique walks not available at any other time waiting for you to register for. Brochures around town have all the details, and their website links to the walk descriptions and for registrations.
HOT RODS AND CLASSIC CARS, A DRAG RACE, BANDS, SALES & SPECIALS, FOOD GALORE AND MORE
Kicking off Beach Hop 2017 on Wednesday March 22 is Waihi’s Warm Up Party with GO Waihi, OceanaGold and Hauraki District Council. Along with all of the above there’re the best-dressed male and female prizes for adults and kids and the fantastic trophies for Best Hot Rod and Classic Car. It’s all packed into four blocks in the CBD of Waihi from up at the Pumphouse down to Rosemont Rd with 500 plus cars on display. It’s a free day so come along and get ready to Rock and Roll !!
LAST CALL FOR STALLS
Close off for stalls at Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop is coming up very soon. If you’ve got products different to the shops why not have a fun day and add to the flavour with a stall. Application forms are at Hauraki District Council Service Centre in Rosemont Rd Waihi, on our website and you can email GO Waihi for one too. Don’t leave it too late.
HERE’S A THOUGHT: Why is it we press harder and harder on the remote when we know the batteries are getting flat?
