The Ides of March are almost upon us, which is a reminder March will be half way through! Another three weeks and we’ll be winding clocks and watches back an hour with the end of daylight saving. I’m enjoying as much of the outdoors as I can while the weather’s good, we’ll not include the last few days but at least it’s warm. There are a few road works happening at the moment so give the workers a toot as you slow down to the lower speed limit, and leave a gap between cars so you don’t get stone chips on your car, or windscreen. I’ve also noticed a few trees starting to drop their leaves; time to grab the rake and sort out the compost for another year.
WAIHI HACK AND HUNTERS POSTPONED
Unfortunately, this event that was set for tomorrow has had to be postponed once again until Saturday 18th March 2017.
AND THEY’RE RACING AGAIN - ON SUNDAY
Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club has another Points Day on Sunday. Always good viewing it’s an inexpensive day’s outing. The ‘arena’ has some of the best views up and down the coast, and is great for all the racing down below you too. A deck chair, umbrella, chilly bin if you want and some friends and family and you’re sorted for a good day. They have refreshments and the loos at the clubrooms, and it’s just $4 entry. Head along Waihi Beach Rd, start heading down through the gorge and you’ll see the entrance on the left beside the quarry.
GET READY TO ROCK AND ROLL IN WAIHI TWO WEEKS THIS WEDNESDAY
It’s Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop on Wednesday March 22 with GO Waihi, OceanaGold and Hauraki District Council. Day One is always held in Waihi where we turn on a fun day for all. Shops are gearing up with sales and specials and lots are dressing up for the occasion. We’ll have three bands playing through town, stalls streetside adding to the flavour and if you go hungry I’ll eat Noddy’s hat (maybe). There are unique Best Hot Rod and Classic Car trophies and prizes for Best Dressed Male and Female and boy and girl. We’ll have a laugh at 12.30 pm with Gold FM’s Drag Race up the main street and enjoy performances by local schools too. It’s on from 9 am to 3 pm so come and enjoy the atmosphere and check out the hundreds of hot rods and classic cars on display.
PRIZES GUARANTEED FOR ALL ENTRANTS IN GOLD FM DRAG RACE
First, last, the strangest outfits, the biggest ... hairdo, eyelashes or fashion failure could all win a prize. Entry’s free and the photos will bring smiles for years to come. A handbag per each three-member team is the baton and the only rules are – have fun, no argee bargee and no stilettos. Entry forms are at Gold FM or download one from our website. Whatever you do, don’t miss this opportunity to show your fashion sense, or is that nonsense.
WHIRITOA AFTER LOCAL INFO
If you’ve got any records of Whiritoa’s history there’s a group who’d love to hear from you. Photographs and anecdotal stories of years gone by along with historical records are all being collated. Any Maori history is important to be catalogued too, including oral records, artefacts and music of the area. If you have anything please get in touch with Gerald on 021 029 77890, email firstname.lastname@example.org or post it to PO Box 40046, Whiritoa Beach 3649. You may think they already have it but why not make contact or send it in and be sure.
