Update December 8

Posted by GO Waihi on 08/12/2017

I’m starting to see a build towards summer, holidays, Christmas, another year … and so little time! We’ll get there, just pace yourself. It’s exciting to see the change of weather and attitude at the same time, or is it just me? It’s great to see people outdoors enjoying what is easy to take for granted. The water’s warm, sunscreen goes without saying and keeping up the liquid intake’s important. There’s plenty on over summer and there’ll be time to relax too. Santa on the other hand …

WAIHI’S CHRISTMAS MARKET DAY LOOKING GOOD TOMORROW
We’re all set to go with a visit from Santa Claus in Waihi tomorrow. He and Mrs Claus, who’s giving away some treats, may well be spotted downtown tomorrow during the Christmas Market Day. With lots of shops gearing up with sales and stalls adding even more flavor it’s got to be a good place to check out for Christmas gifts, and maybe birthday, wedding, anniversary and just because! Starting from 9.30 am, come early for the best buys. Waihi Lions will have their raffles running with lots of great prizes and Sarah Spicer’s music’s always a favourite with the crowd. The Waihi Women’s Choir with Wella Tasma is set to perform on the corner of Haszard and Seddon Streets at 11.30 am with some great Christmas tunes, and moves too. There’s facepainting, a sausage sizzle or two and a fantastic choice of food in Waihi’s mall without walls. You’re invited for the day!

SANTA CLAUS & HIS SLEIGH ARE SLIPPING INTO TOWN TOMORROW
So who’s been behaving? Bring the family and be part of the annual GO Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourts Waihi tomorrow. Starting at 1 pm there’ll be a flotilla of floats of all descriptions slowly making their way through the centre of Waihi. Aboard will be kids having the time of their lives, adults doing the same and even the crowd gets into it seeing friends and family up there. It’s not too late to enter, the more the merrier. Entry forms are on our website, Gold FM n the corner of Seddon and Haszard Streets and at the HDC Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Rd. Walking floats, on the back of a truck, trailer, ute or horse, you never know what’s going to turn up. One thing’s for sure we’re turning up the fun tomorrow in Waihi. Are you coming?

DON’T BE LATE FOR THE LATE NIGHT SHOPPING
Downtown Waihi is gearing up for a Christmas Shopping late night. Santa Claus is keen to come back and will be roving through town. There’ll be music, face painting, lots of bargains in the shops and every purchase on the night gives you the chance to win a Christmas Hamper. Wednesday December 20 from 5 pm sounds like a good time.

SUMMER ART EXHIBITION COMING
Waihi Art Club’s had the year to sort their theme and it’s a beaut … “Fakes and Forgeries with a Twist”. We’re talking their annual Summer Art Exhibition, set for January 5, 6 and 7. Weather doesn’t matter as it’s in the Waihi Beach Community Centre from 10 am to 4 pm each day. A gold coin gets you in, there’ll be raffles and also artists working on site you can have a chat to. All art will be for sale.

WATCH ’EM GET DOWN AND DIRTY FROM UP ABOVE
Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club has another Points Day on Sunday from 11 am. Always good viewing it’s an inexpensive day’s outing. The ‘arena’ has some of the best views up and down the coast, and is great for all the racing down below you too. A deck chair, umbrella, chilly bin if you want and some friends and family and you’re sorted for a good day. They have refreshments and the loos at the clubrooms, and it’s just $4 entry with under 12’s free. Head along Waihi Beach Rd, start heading down through the gorge and you’ll see the entrance on the left beside the quarry.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: It’s not only who you know but what you know about who you know that counts.
