Update October 6

Posted by GO Waihi on 06/10/2016

Shall we talk about the rain? OK, moving right along, the countdown to Labour Day and the extra day off is looming up, let me see, two weeks from now and hello, we’re there. I’m determined to get another BBQ or two in before then. I’ll say congratulations to those successful in the elections which close tomorrow at midday. I just hope those who don’t bother voting don’t bother bleating either. Wishful thinking I bet! With a ton on in and around Waihi you won’t get bored across October and Goldfest.

COUNT & RECOUNT - CRUNCHIES NOT VOTES
Monday is the last day to enter one of Goldfest’s popular annual events. Guess the Number of Crunchie Bars with Waihi New World has Crunchies placed in around 50 store windows through Waihi. Your mission is to count them, fill out an entry form and put it into the entry box. Winners will be announced on Monday 10 October on Gold FM with a $100, $75 and $50 for the three closest ‘guesstimates’.

GOLDFEST MARKET DAY SATURDAY IN WAIHI
Saturday sees the annual GO Waihi Market Day downtown. There’ll be lots of shops and plenty of stalls with specials, sales and lots of bargains. The Sarah Spicer Band will entertain you in front of the Waihi Memorial Hall, and there’s an interesting display of big model boats and trains in the Waihi Memorial Hall Supper Room to check out. No worries being hungry, the choice will be awesome with everything from cafes and eateries to stalls with cup cakes, muffins, fritters, coconut ice, fudge and more. It starts at 9 running through the morning. Head into town, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

TROLLEYS READY, DRIVERS KEEN, EMERGENCY SERVICES ALL ON
The annual GO Waihi Trolley Derby with Waihi Lions and Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club starts at midday Saturday. The course is down Haszard St from the top, and around into Seddon St. Then it’s back to the top for another run ... or four. It’s free to enter and one lucky entrant there on the day will win $300 cash, with lots of spot prizes too. And the Emergency Services Challenge is on between the police, fire service, St John ambulance and Coastguard too. It’s gonna be fun! Check our website and listen to Gold FM for cancellations.
