Should we do the pinch and a punch for another month or spend the time productively figuring out the countdown to Christmas has started with just 51 days to go? OK, we’ve already achieved that, now for a New Month Resolution. Barbecues are starting to come back into play, the beach beckons for lots of us, the bush is another great option to have on our back doorstep, and a lot of things to sort between now and Christmas and New Year is a call back to reality. Pace yourself, and keep behaving, Santa has his elves out checking on who’s in line for a visit I hear.
WAIHI’S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE FOR STARTERS
Set aside Saturday December 10 for a good day in Waihi. First up there’ll be the Christmas Market Day downtown with every opportunity to get ahead, or even finish your shopping with sales in shops and stalls adding even more variety. We’ll add a bit of atmosphere with some music / entertainment to set the mood. That’s from about 9 am, and keep your eyes peeled for Santa, Mrs Claus, Rudolf and the other reindeer as well as who knows how many elves. The GO Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourts Waihi gets underway at 1 pm, and is always a great show with lots of floats and a big crowd cheering them on. Float entry and stall application forms are on our website www.waihi.org.nz and also at Hauraki District Council Service Centre and Library in Waihi and Gold FM. Get ready to Jingle Your Bells with enthusiasm.

Horses, cattle, goats, alpacas, sheep, donkey rides, a petting zoo, stalls, entertainment, food, refreshments all make for a great day, and at just $12 for a family of four – including car parking, it’s good value. It’s only $5 for adults, $2 for kids and $2 a car park. Events start at 9.30 am and be there at 2.30 pm for the Lucky Gate Draw with $200 for adults and $50 for children along with 2nd and 3rd prizes. STOP, SHOP & WIN THE $1000 POT OF GOLD DRAW
If you’ve been shopping in Waihi at participating stores across October during Goldfest the best of luck with this Tuesday morning’s draw. 1000 $1 coins are looking for a new home. We’ll get the police to do the draw just after 8 am on Gold FM. We’ve had thousands of entries with people shopping locally, and the more you shopped in Waihi and entered, the more chances you’ve got to win! Good ‘Pot’ luck.
LOST CRAFT FAIR WITH VICTORIA BATTERY – KEEN?
The Victoria Battery Tramway Society is looking at having this in among the ruins of the Victoria Battery site in Waikino. Right now they’re after expressions of interest from those that make, sell, demonstrate, educate and take orders for ‘almost’ lost craft. Artisans like a blacksmith, coppersmith, chairmaker, spoonmaker, glassblower, knife maker, leather worker, saddler, wheelwright, potter, weaver and carver are good examples. Sound like you? Contact Mike on 07 863 6164 and let’s help make this day happen.
SUMMER HAPPENINGS – WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Waihi district always comes out over summer with things for people to see and do. Art exhibitions, music, shows, things for the kids all appear. Let GO Waihi know about them so we can put them on the website, and tell folk in a variety of ways what’s on, and coming up. Even if you’re still formulating your event let us know the outline. We often get asked what’s on and when so there’re no clashes.
HERE’S A THOUGHT: Isn’t it funny how the first bug to hit your clean windscreen usually lands directly in front of your eyes.
