Thirty five days and counting ... down rapidly, yes that’s all that’s left of 2016. That means there’s twenty eight days until we know if we’ve behaved enough for a visit from Santa Claus. Speaking of Santa he’s visiting Waihi on Saturday December 10 to say hello, we’ve got more on this exciting news below. This time next week we’re into December, with the longest day coming up around the 21st. Wow! We’ve got lots coming up around the Waihi district so let’s get started with some of the events.
ADD SOME FLAVOUR TO YOUR SUNDAY
Starting at 2 pm on Sunday the Waihi Herb Society open the doors of the Salvation Army Hall for you to join them for their monthly meeting, which happens on the last Sunday each month. The theme this time is herbs for Christmas and card making. They always have a shared cuppa and also talk about herbs and gardening in general and sometimes have guest speakers or visit gardens. Take a few dollars along to help cover the hall and afternoon tea. For contact details get in touch with me.
FUNDRAISER FUN A ‘TRIVIAL’ THING SATURDAY NIGHT
Raising funds doesn’t have to be all hard work and no fun. A couple of Waihi senior students have been chosen to play in Under 18 representative basketball teams and need to raise $3400 each to get to Australia. Kelli and lake invite you to answer trivia questions and have a laugh at Waihi RSA Saturday at 5.30 pm. It’s just $2 a player with teams of up to six, so go on, put your names down at the RSA and see how you go answering the questions, bidding at the mystery auction and with the raffles.
WAIHI MASONIC LODGE GARAGE SALE ON THE WAY
This happens on the morning of Waihi’s Christmas Parade on December 10 from 8 am on the corner of Kenny St and Rosemont Rd (SH2). All money raised goes back into our community. If you’ve got something, anything, in good condition that you’re happy to donate please call them and they’ll pick it up or let you know where you can drop it off. Call 07 863 7574 with any donations.
WAIHI’S SANTA PARADE FLOAT AND STALL FORMS OUT NOW
Get a bunch of friends sorted and organise a float. Walking, trailers, trucks, biking, cars, motorbikes or what have you are all invited to make this another memorable GO Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourts Waihi. The Christmas Market Day through the morning is a great fundraiser for clubs, groups and individuals too. Fun’s the name of the game on Saturday December 10. Forms for floats and stalls are at Hauraki District Council’s Waihi Service Centre and Library, Gold FM and here. Are you in? (and no is not an acceptable answer Santa says)
A QUICK HEADS UP RE FESTIVE TUNES DOWNTOWN
Wella Tasma’s popular Waihi Ladies Choir is gearing up for another fun performance on Saturday December 17. Starting at 10 am they’ll be joined by the Salvation Army band, and possibly you if you know the words to the Christmassy tunes they’ve got lined up. And remember the Ohinemuri Singers concert ‘A Carol for a King’ at the Salvation Army Church hall on Friday December 9 at 6.30 pm too. Well loved carols, a Cantata and more are all part of the 90 plus minute performance, all for $5 for adults.
HERE’S A THOUGHT: An optimist is someone who starts a new diet on Christmas Day.
