Happy Easter! I hope you have a fantastic time across the long weekend, catching up with family and friends, relaxing, getting the odd job done and enjoying yourself whether you’re travelling or staying nearby. Make sure you stick around for Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop this coming Wednesday, March 30. Check out the details below. With Daylight Saving coming to an end next weekend make the most of the outdoors in the afternoons; we’re not going to get too much of them soon with dusk a lot earlier! Have a great time in and around our backyard, New Zealand’s Holiday Capital.

JUST A SKIP AND A JUMP AWAY FROM THE HOP
Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop with GO Waihi, OceanaGold, Thiess Global Mining and Hauraki District Council is this Wednesday, right through the CBD downtown in Waihi. Roads will be closed and the streets filled with hundreds of classic cars and hot rods, people dancing and enjoying the atmosphere and lots dressing up for the occasion. Dozens of stalls will add to the glittering array of goods and products that the shops have on sale. It’s a fun day whether you’re into cars or not. There’ll be three bands playing through the day and plenty of food and refreshments through the cafes, restaurants and eateries, together with even more food stalls. Things kick off around 9 am and wrap up at 3 pm. Get ready to Rock ‘n’ Roll with FUN for everyone!

THE WHEN & WHERE FOR WEDNESDAY
8 am the roads are closed downtown in Waihi. Stalls will be set to go by 9 am. DRAG RACE ANYTHING BUT
The Gold FM Original Drag Race is part of the fun of Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop, a BIG part! That’s when the men get sorted from the ... well let’s just say they’ve got the proverbials to dress in drag and run through downtown Waihi with two of their mates, handbag at the ready as their baton. Thanks to BananaPapper for supplying everyone their ‘Booby Prize’ and to all the businesses for the prizes for all the race team members. Entry forms are still at the Waihi HDC Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Rd, at Gold FM upstairs on the corner of Seddon and Haszard Sts Waihi and at www.goldfm.co.nz. Get them back ASAP!! This is a great way to promote any business in a rather unique way! Free to enter, fun to watch.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS ... AND FUN!
There are four categories for the Best Dressed Competition this year at Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop. Dress up and enter at GO Waihi Beach Hop Central in the foyer of the old library, next to the Memorial Hall. Men, women, boys and girls are invited to enter. Thanks to Diamonds On Seddon, Waitete Restaurant, Cafe and Ice Creamery and Clarks Pharmacy for the great prizes. CLICK, SNAP, ZOOM, SMILE, FOCUS, SHOT, WIN
GO Waihi has a Panasonic 40” big screen LCD TV to give away with Beach Hop and Waihi’s Warm Up Party. Get your camera out, take some shots that show off the action and Waihi in some way, sort through your best pics and send them to GO Waihi by Friday April 15. What captures that Waihi perspective on the day? The competition’s open to amateur photographers and the judge’s decision is final. Email single photos to info@waihi.org.nz, put them on a disc and drop them off to Gold FM upstairs on the corner of Seddon and Haszard Streets in Waihi or post them to GO Waihi, PO Box 34, Waihi 3641.
