Another couple of months and we’ll see the return of daylight saving. And it’s also the Spring Equinox in exactly 8 weeks too. So, by my calculations Labour Weekend is 12 weeks away, and dare I say it, Christmas will sneak up quickly in only 21 weeks and 2 days. Not one for numbers but I’d hazard a guess that means 2017 won’t be far behind! I hope you’re getting out and about in between the odd shower. Good luck to the teams who are in the Thames Valley Rugby finals tomorrow. I hear from the gardening gurus now’s the time to be composting your garden ready for spring too.
LOTS OF LAUGHS, GOOD FOOD AND SOME GREAT MEMORIES - FOR MOST
This is all encapsulated in one night tomorrow with Waihi Lions Charity Dinner and Show for St John’s Building Project. Any tickets left need to go so Waihi Beach Community Centre is packed. Starting at 6 pm Guy Cater will entertain you with his hypnotist and comedy show. A chance to be part of the act is on offer, if you dare. Any tickets left are at HDC’s Waihi office, Waihi’s St John’s Op Shop and at Waihi beach Pharmacy. They’re just $45 or if you’re lucky there might be a table or two for ten available for $400, and dinner’s included too.
A, B, AB, O, AA, OA, BB, BO, AB, OO AND A FEW MORE
Do you know your blood type? New Zealand Blood Service is after all of the above if possible when they visit Waihi’s Memorial Hall on Monday between 9 am and 1 pm. They need new donors so if you can spare an hour ring and make an appointment to roll up your sleeve and relax. 0800 448 325’s the number. They can answer any questions and can book a time to suit. Remember to take along some photo ID on the day. They can tell you your blood type too.
WHO’LL BE THE FIRST TO ENTER?
GO Waihi’s Annual Trolley Derby is back on Saturday October 8 as part of Goldfest 2016. It’s free to enter and open to boys and girls, men and women. Entry forms are on our website, at HDC’s Service Centre and Library and at Gold FM and they have just a few rules about your trolley, what to wear and times and dates. There’s a $300 lucky entry prize to be won and it’s a ton of fun. Waihi Lions and Waihi Beach Dirt track Club will make sure you get as many runs as possible in, and there’re always lots of prizes given away. This is an open invitation wherever you live.
MARKET DAY CALL FOR STALLS
The same day as our Trolley Derby Waihi has a Market Day downtown with music, entertainment, lots of shops with sales and specials and ... stalls streetside. If you’d like a stall contact GO Waihi for an application form. It’s a fun day with several thousand in town across the morning to mid afternoon, and it’s a good opportunity to share your wares. What have you got to complement the shops? Stalls are mostly just $15. Get in early as there are a limited number.
TIPS, HINTS, SUGGESTIONS, HELP, A SPEAKER AND IDEAS GALORE
On Sunday Waihi Herb Society ‘springs’ into action with their AGM followed by their monthly meeting at the Salvation Army Hall at the top of Seddon St. Starting at 2 pm there’re always some great ideas shared and a cuppa’s included. This month’s speaker is Dave Harrison talking on circulation. Next month they’ll be looking at preparation for spring and companion planting. Contact GO Waihi if you’d like more information.
LATCH ON TO THIS ONE
The annual Big Latch On celebrating breastfeeding women and supporters around Aotearoa is coming up next Saturday August 6. Hosted by Waihi La Leche League and Birth Insight, it’s being held at Paeroa Community Support Trust, 5 Mackay St. starting at 10 am. There’ll be morning tea, a good get together and some spot prizes to be won too.
