Update October 9

Posted by Go Waihi on 09/10/2015

It’s a pleasure to see that extra daylight at the end of the working day. A chance to enjoy some outdoors time, and there are lots taking up the opportunity. Parks and our beaches are getting good use. Are you looking forward to Labour Weekend? Whether you’re planning something or going with the flow, that extra day is looking pretty inviting. Goldfest is in full swing with some great things still to come, for all ages.

WHAT A WHEELIE GOOD TIME – THANKS
The Goldfest Market Day and Trolley Derby went down a treat last Saturday. The weather held, and trolleys kept coming. That was after the Wai Taiko Drummers entertained the crowds downtown. Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a fun day. The Waihi Lions and Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club for running the races, HDC with the street closures, Carters Contractors sorting pick up and drop off of the safety fencing, all the shops who made the most of the influx of locals and visitors for the day, the stall holders for adding even more variety to town, the trolley teams of course and everyone who came along and enjoyed an awesome day in Waihi.

GOLDFEST – BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
Good luck if you’ve entered the XTerra Trail Challenge in and around Waihi tomorrow. Based at Dickey’s Flat it’s up and at ’em with five trail walk run events, from 8 km’s to the 61 km Kaimai Killer Ultra Marathon (and I mean good luck). What a backdrop! The Karangahake Gorge is ready and waiting to stun you with its beauty. Get set for a blast. Oh, and well done to the local volunteers out there helping make sure things run smoothly.

CRUNCHIES, HOW MANY? MONDAY’S THE DEADLINE
Waihi New World has three vouchers waiting for the closest guesses of how many Crunchie Bars are in the shop windows through Waihi town. Entry forms are in most shops, HDC’s Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Rd and at Gold FM. The Guess the Number of Crunchie Bars Competition is free to enter and everyone can have a guess. Each block has a shop or two with a list of participating shops in their window, and we’ve posted it on our website www.waihi.org.nz too. Entries close at 4 pm on Monday.

WHIRITOA SPRING FLING POTLUCK DINNER
Next Saturday October 17 Whiritoa Community Hall will host this event for the Cancer Society. A donation is your entry fee and its pot luck so take something toward a shared dinner and your own drinks and enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment. 6.30 pm sees the first course about to start and take some cash for the raffles.

QUIZ, QUESTION, QUERY, QUENCH & QUOTAS
Next Friday Waihi Bluelight have all the questions and invite you to provide the answers, while enjoying a good night that will leave no questions unanswered with their Quiz Night. Sort a team of ten or register as many as you like and join a team. There’s a cash bar, supper and pre dinner drinks and nibbles. Waihi Memorial Hall doors will swing open at 5.30 pm with the quizmaster’s quirky questions from 6.30 pm, and to get home just climb aboard the Bluelight Van. Sterling’s got the $20 tickets on 07 863 3713, but be quick.

LABOUR WEEKEND GOLDFEST EVENTS GALORE
Waihi’s got some great things lined up across the long weekend. In brief there’s Art Waikino’s Annual Art Exhibition, Waihi Art Centre and Museum’s Art Trail, the Waihi Football Club’s two day Ten Team Tournament, the Big Dig at Waihi Beach and on Saturday the 24th, the Heartlanders: New Zealanders of the Great War Travelling Museum Exhibition that’s touring the country with the National Army Museum.

HERE’S A THOUSAND REASONS TO SHOP LOCALLY IN WAIHI
Want to win $1000? Just shop in participating shops in Waihi’s CBD, they’ve got signs in their windows, and once you’ve purchased something simply put your name and contact details on the form at the shop and pop it into the box on the counter. The more you shop the more chances you have of winning 1000 $1 coins with GO Waihi. Stop, Shop and Win with the Pot of Gold during Goldfest right across October.
