Happy birthday Your Majesty, Queen’s Birthday weekend is here and we welcome the ‘gottagetaway’ crowd. Drive carefully, be friendly and stay as long as you can. This place grows on you and you end up wanting to make it your home. Good choice. Check out the real estate prices, great amenities and how local we are to everything.

The deadline’s tomorrow! Hauraki District Council wants to get Ultra Fast Broadband into the district as soon as possible, and they‘d like your help. They’re putting together a case to say why we need it before other areas. What would you use UFB for, and how could it help your business or home life? Fill out the 2 minute survey at www.hauraki-dc.govt.nz/hufb, or fill out a form at any HDC office or library. Come up with the best future use and you could win the ipad mini 3 they’re giving away. Forms need to be filled out by 4.30 pm tomorrow so help HDC if you can.

These are the days to visit the Waihi Art Club’s Art Exhibition at Waihi Memorial Hall in Seddon St. Between 10 am and 4 pm they’ll have artists demonstrating various techniques who’d love to have a chat, there’s a raffle and all art on a great variety of subjects in oils, pastels and acrylics is for sale. Pick up a bargain, a one of a kind and check out their special feature ‘The Eyes Have It’. A gold coin gets you in and eftpos is available.

Books are the mainstay and there’ll be game, puzzles and music for sale with the Waihi Lions Annual Book Fair on Saturday between 9 am and 4.30 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm. They’re all categorised ready for new homes at the St John Anglican Church Hall opposite the Pumphouse at the top of Seddon St. And a huge thanks to you if you’ve donated this year, you’re awesome.

$3 and you have around 80 stalls to browse. Waihi Beach Community Centre is the venue between 10 am and 4 pm this Sunday for their 10th Anniversary Art and Craft Fair. Take cash as there’s no eftpos and you know you’re going to find some great one off things. Add in the cafe with the Waihi Beach RSA Women and you should put aside a few hours to casually sort Christmas, birthdays and a few other gift ideas in the one day.

We’re looking at a Go Waihi Business After 5 with a difference, but it will have to wait just a wee bit longer. We’re on track for a good get together and just have to wait to bridge the gap. Keep your train of thought and we’ll shunt the idea out again next week hopefully.

Waihi musicians are getting together to perform at Waihi College Hall next Sunday June 7 from 4 pm to 6 pm. A donation is all they’re asking and you’ll be entertained by the likes of the Mellow Tones, the Dancing Divas, Waihi Central School Choir and Crew, Karangahake School Singers & Musicians, Waihi Community Singers and Waihi’s Sarah Spicer - hot from TV’s X Factor. A good one to support!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: I’m not lazy, I’m just very relaxed.
