Update December 3

Posted by Go Waihi on 03/12/2015

This time last year we were wondering where the warmer weather that heralds summer was. We didn’t get the good stuff until the middle of December, and then it didn’t stop for several months. The exams end today for seniors, Yeehaa! With Christmas coming there’s already talk of holidays and a break, and I like it. We need some ‘us time’ and whatever you want to do with the longer weekends, or shorter weeks, it’s an opportunity to recharge the batteries, to gather the thoughts and possibly even relax! Thing is though, it takes a bit of energy to get to that relaxed mode. Effort now, pay off soon!!

We’ll be hearing the jingle bells next Saturday December 12 with GO Waihi’s Christmas Parade in association with Harcourt’s Waihi. Rudolf’s red nose will be taking the lead heading our way for a start at 1 pm down town in Waihi. It’s not too late to grab an entry form and get aboard. They’re available at Hauraki District Council Waihi Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Rd, Gold Fm, at here on our website. Good fun, great time, possibly a prize for funniest, most Christmassy, the most Kiwi, for being at the right place at the right time and definitely for effort. FREE is the entry fee, FUN is guaranteed and MEMORIES are what these days are all about. Ho ho ho and here we go!

Saturday December 12 at 8 am the doors to the Waihi Masonic Lodge on the corner of Kenny St and Rosemont Rd will open with an array of goods they don’t even know about yet. That’s because they’re still receiving goods in good condition they can add to the sale. If you have something you’d like to donate call 07 863 7574 to arrange dropping off or pick up. They do a lot of good quietly in our community so fundraising’s important. Get along for a good start to a busy day in Waihi.

GO Waihi’s Christmas Market Day from 9.30 am on Saturday December 12 is a great opportunity to sort Christmas prezzies, birthdays, wedding anniversaries, promotions, sorry to hear that, bon voyage and hope you get better soon situations. Downtown Waihi will come alive with shops having Christmas and summer sales with specials inside and out. In the gaps between shop stalls we’ve got even more choice for you with a great range of stalls with all sorts for all sorts. Food and refreshments, entertainers the Wai Taiko Drummers performing and lots of happy people make for a good time. Be part of it.

ECHO Walking Festival is synonymous with health, the outdoors, stretching your legs, visiting places you haven’t been before, hearing about the history of the walk you’re on, and enjoying our beautiful backyard. Most walks are free, all are guided and the brochure will let you know which walk goes where, when, what to expect, how hard or easy, where to meet and how to book. That brochure is just a week or two away, and while the festival isn’t until March through April, it’s a good idea to look and book early so you don’t miss out. I’ll let you know when the brochures hit the streets, and go to our website and click the link to see what’s coming up and to register.

GO Waihi would love to hear from you if you have something coming up, especially over summer. When people visit they want to know what’s on, and our website events calendar will let everyone know what’s on, where and when. Send your information through as early as possible, and then add to it as you get things sorted. That way you’ll get more people along and people will have more choice of things to do for visitors and locals. Art show, beach fun, market days, music concert, family day, Christmas carols …whotchagot?
