Update September 5

Posted by Go Waihi on 05/09/2014

It’s time to look at the garden, and probably a good idea to take it a step or two further with some compost and a little TLC now for a fantastic return in just a few weeks. A little elbow grease and you’ll be everybody’s favourite before you know it, and not only is it super cheap to do, it’s super fresh and tasty too. It’s just a couple of weeks to go to the elections. The issues are what we should be considering, the solutions to the problems and situations that need attention. Nothing’s changed through the decades. What’s the best for you, your family, friends, the community, the region and our country?? My parents and theirs before them, my generation and the next ones will no doubt break it down to these issues too, and right now I think a refocus could be in order? Read, listen, watch, talk and make some decisions worth voting for. I feel better for saying that. Oh yes, happy Father’s Day, I hope you’ve behaved over the rest of the year!!

ANGLES, COME IN TIGHT, SWING OUT WIDE AND AWAY – ENTER NOW!
Tactics are all important in the annual Go Waihi Trolley Derby and Skateboard Competition. Not just for the Emergency Services Challenge either. A good start, find the right line to wind up your speed, work on that corner into Seddon St and then figure out how to stop after crossing the finish line, ready to head to the top for as many runs as possible. Build a new entry, or improve on last year’s model. It’s free to enter, open to boys and girls, men and women, with a special class for the out there crazy entries, and we hope for lots of these on Saturday 4 October. Businesses, schools, clubs, groups, churches, families, individuals unite ... well, maybe compete against each other and yourself for fun. Entry forms are at the Waihi HDC library and office in Rosemont Rd, on our website and you can phone or email Go Waihi for them too.

GO WAIHI BA5 DISCOVERY TRIP TO GOLD DISCOVERY CENTRE
Waihi business owners and managers, here’s your chance to see the insides of Waihi’s newest attraction, before it’s even completed, and an interesting look inside the centre it will be. There’s some history to share, an exciting mix of areas to explore and a lot of the displays are tactile ... and hands on too! You’ll get to see some of the finishing touches getting the final treatment, tests going on of electrical displays and a theaterette in the making. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I do think you’ll be surprised and I bet you’ll be impressed with what’s rapidly coming together for the opening very soon. There’ll be a chance to catch up and our regular update on things going on around the district. Join Go Waihi this Wednesday just after 5 pm, and please register by phone or email as we need to know numbers for the guided tours through the work zone.

ART IN FIVE CATEGORIES VYING FOR SUPREME AWARD
Sculpture, photography of people, photography of other than people, handcraft and art are the categories. Entry forms are ready to be filled in and returned. Get one from any number of outlets around the peninsular, email artwaikino@gmail.com or get one from our website. What will wow the judges; what are you proud of that you’d like to enter? Remember everything in the exhibition is also for sale, so you may get some well earned $$’s for some new paints and essentials. Labour Weekend is when, Waikino’s historic Victoria Hall is the venue. Good luck and get creative.

CALL FOR MALL WITHOUT WALLS TO BECOME HALL OF STALLS
That depends on the response to this invite of course. Go Waihi would love to add to the fantastic shopping experience offered to locals and visitors with a mix of stalls offering a variety of things not already available in Waihi. It could be a fundraiser, fresh produce, nick knacks, what have you got? Eye catching, interesting, different, affordable and sold with a smile, apart from these things there aren’t too many prerequisites. Get in touch with Go Waihi now, and we’re also looking for someone to do face painting, some entertaining through the streets, and anything else you think will brighten up a fun family day and we can afford of course. Be part of a neat day, get in touch now.

ON TRACK FOR A RACE DAY NIGHT WITH A DIFFERENCE
Fun fundraising is a great idea. You get to have a good time and others get to benefit from this. Waihi Beach School has tapped into this with their Race Night where you could end up as the jockey. Best hat wins, so do the best dressed fella and felless and there’s a door prize just for turning up. Get your $15 tickets from La Diva in Waihi or Waihi Beach School and you’ve got $5000 funny money for starters. More can be bought on the night, along with refreshments of the non and alcoholic varieties, and there are nibbles served through the evening. Add in the courtesy van available and Ground Force with the music and you know it’s one to get along to. Don’t say neigh to this one!!

HERE’S A THOUGHT: Procrastination - the art of keeping up with yesterday.
