Update November 5

Posted by Go Waihi on 05/11/2014

We’re on the unofficial countdown to Christmas, with quite a few things to fit in before then. NCEA and Scholarship exams are underway and we’re about a month away from our Go Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourt’s Waihi and Market Day. The smell of the BBQ is back in my neighbourhood, and it’s nice to see so many out enjoying the warmer and (sometimes) sunny conditions.

GOOD FOR A LOAN?
Congratulations, the winner of the Go Waihi Stop Shop and Win $1000 Pot of Gold is Diane Kiernan from Waikino. The police drew her name out on Gold FM on Tuesday and she was very happy to receive the good news. Thanks to everyone who entered the promotion by shopping in Waihi through October and Goldfest. We had thousands of entries from locals and visitors and it’s proof we have just about everything at our fingertips, and no parking meters or time limits either.

THE A TO Z OF THE WAIHI A & P SHOW
Next Saturday the gates open around 7 am for competitors and public parking’s right alongside for $2. The whole family can get in for about $12 and there’s a full day’s action with cows, sheep, goats, alpacas, bulls, miniature horses, Arabian horses and lots more categories for you to check out. Add stalls, sideshows, rides, plenty to eat and drink and even a gate prize and it’s going to be a good day at the Waihi A & P Show Grounds along Parry Palm Ave. Want a schedule to enter or a stall site; get in touch for contact details.

A STROLL IN THE GARDEN TIMES HOW MANY?
Waihi Lions invite you to get ideas, look and learn, ask questions, become inspired and walk something like 16 or so gardens next Saturday and Sunday with their Garden Ramble. Tickets are on sale for $20, $18 if you have a Gold Card or just $15 for groups of ten or more. This is a major fundraiser for them with everything raised going towards local projects.

WAIHI DRAMA SOCIETY ENDS YEAR WITH A LAUGH
Lots of laughs with their production ‘Ladies For Hire”, about a church choir whose services are ‘no longer required’. Not wanting to disband they go on the road, with some very funny situations. The season runs from November 19 to 29 and includes a couple of matinees. $20 tickets are available at United Video in Upper Seddon St Waihi for cash or cheque. Pick a performance, grab a friend, remember your laughing gear and have a great time.

POKER RUN HEADING TO WAIHI ON THE CARDS
Want a good day out on your bike, followed by a good night enjoying heaps of food including pig on a spit, as well as two bands pumping out some great sounds? Stay the night in the lower Kaimai’s at a lodge where you can pitch a tent, book a bunk or take a room. The Poker Run’s $30 if you book early, $40 of not and it’s not much more for the accommodation. Saturday November 22’s the day and remember, no patches, no BYO and no attitudes. Contact me for contact details.

STEPS FOR A GREAT GOURMET FOOD WORKSHOP
Firstly check you’re free on Sunday 30 November. Then ask a friend or two to join you for a day of learning, and eating a natural gourmet lunch after helping to prepare it. That’s after enjoying the exciting tastes and textures of morning tea, which you’ll also help prepare. A whole new world of flavour possibilities are waiting at the International Academy in Waihi. Registrations are open until November 16, so book your place now and you’re just one step away from a great day that you’ll benefit from for years to come. Contact me for more details.

GO WAIHI MARKET DAY & CHRISTMAS PARADE
Please join us for a great day on Saturday December 6 in Waihi as we gear up for some fun with our Christmas Market Day then our annual Christmas Parade with Harcourt’s Real Estate Waihi. We’ll kick things off with some great specials in shops and on the street with stalls, there’ll be entertainment to add to the flavour and you won’t go hungry with a great mix of cafes, restaurants and eateries, along with a sausage sizzle and more I’m sure. If you’d like to entertain or have a stall, get in touch, but please do it soon so we can get things sorted for Santa. We don’t want to disappoint him, or Mrs Claus!

FORMULATE, FIND, FIX, FANTASTIC FUN FLOATS
Keen people required to create, build, dust off, spruce up, add to, change and be involved in getting floats ready for our Christmas Parade on December 6. Rules state you must be positive, smile, have heaps of energy and just want to have lots of FUN! Even more people are needed of all ages to be on the floats. Get in touch with the boss at your workplace, school, club, church, neighbourhood or household and say “let’s do it”.
