Update November 28

Posted by Go Waihi on 28/11/2014

Santa season is about to strike, leading up to Christmas and then another year. So, can you tell me where this year has gone? I don’t know anyone who’s saying 2014 has dragged out, and I bet 2015 is going to glide by at a fairly decent rate too. Better make the most of today while we look forward to tomorrow. With the change of month so does the season, unofficially, and the longest day is just over three weeks away. We’re just starting to see a little settled weather, which is great with lots of things going on outdoors. Here’s hoping it lasts for Christmas Eve eh Santa?

200 YEARS AGO AND IT’S TIME TO MARK THE OCCASION
The combined churches of Waihi and Waihi Beach invite you to Waihi College for their celebration of the bi-centenary of the first ever public church service in New Zealand, Samuel Marsden at Ohoi on Christmas Day 1814. It’s an open invite to everyone to be part of this celebration starting at 10.30 am on Sunday 7 December.

GET TOGETHER JUST AFTER WORK
The final Go Waihi Business After 5 meeting for the year is at Quartz Cafe, right opposite the Waihi Memorial Hall. This Wednesday Waihi business owners and managers are invited to get together as the silly season rapidly approaches. Gillian and her team have invited us along and we’ll get a chance to have a Christmas catch up and find out about a few things coming up. 2015 is on the horizon and it will be a couple of months before our next BA5 so why not ring or email Go Waihi and register and join us just after 5 pm for about an hour and a half.

ATHENREE HOMESTEAD INVITE
Sunday is the Athenree Homestead’s Christmas Market and Fair. Enjoy Devonshire teas and other food in the newly refurbished ‘station’, have your photo taken in period costume - with outfits to hire, there’s a complete vintage Christmas look inside the homestead and about 50 or so stalls selling glassware, woodwork, Alpaca products, jewellery, dolls, crafts, clothing, books, Christmas ideas ... hey, I’ve just begun! Take cash ‘cos there’s no eftpos. Santa’s there in his sleigh too. Entry’s $3 with under 12’s free and it’s all on from 10 am to 2 pm in Athenree Road, just off SH2.

YOUR INVITE: WAIHI CHRISTMAS PARADE AND MARKET DAY NEXT SATURDAY
With our annual Christmas Parade comes the Christmas Market Day smack bang downtown in the CBD of Waihi. Walk the streets and enjoy all the shops with their wares outside, and more specials inside. Add stalls with even more variety and you’ll be ticking a few gifts off your list. There’s food for most tastes and appetites through town, sit down or take away, a snack or something more substantial, breakfast, morning tea, lunch or dinner come to think about it. Add the fantastic voice of Sarah Spicer down town singing outside the Waihi Memorial Hall and young Josh Durning’s guitar with some more Christmas cheer and it’s a great day to head to Waihi for some fun. Market starts as early as you like with music from 10 am and the parade’s at 1 pm. Santa says ‘SEE YOU THERE’!!

FLOATS FOR THE BIG PARADE
A week and a day and Santa’s ready to hit the main street of Waihi with our annual Go Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourt’s Waihi. 1 pm next Saturday December 6 the Christmas Market Day culminates with the happy chap visiting at the tail of our parade. We want floats, floats and more floats to wow the crowd on the footpath watching and waving as you float by. We’ve got all sorts of floats, walking, biking and possibly mobility scooter floats too. Got an idea for a float, then get a registration form, fill it out and get it back quick smart. They’re at Harcourt’s Waihi, Gold FM, the Hauraki District Council Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Rd and on our website; or email or call me and I’ll get one out to you. Just a bit of effort and a few of you helping and you’ll be amazed what you can create.

STALLS INVITE
We’re just a sausage or two short of full with our stalls to fill the gaps between shops with their stalls outside on our Christmas Market Day next Saturday. Got something different to add to the mix, some cupcakes, a barbecue, a fundraiser for your club or group, then get in touch and we’ll see if we can sort a spot for you to turn a dollar or three. Registration forms are at HDC’s Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Road, Gold FM and on here on our website.

DYNAMIK MINI DANCE EVENT = ENERGY PLUS PERFORMANCE
Saturday at 6 pm sees the Christmas Show for Dynamik Hip Hop at Waihi Memorial Hall, a chance for the pupils to let their hair down, or put it up, and show off some of the moves and skills they’ve learnt, and to remind some of us it’s better to watch than try some of the moves. $5 with under fives $3, the show’s just under an hour of action packed dance routines and moves. Doors open at 5.30 pm.

HERE’S A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS:

  • The more you ‘no’, the less you’ll know.
  • Things turn out the best for those who make the most of the way things turn out.
