Update December 5

Posted by Go Waihi on 05/12/2014

Here come Santa, Mrs Claus and Rudolf, who’s in the lead as they head to Waihi tomorrow for the Christmas Parade and Market Day. Ho, ho, holy cow, what a great line up for the day. Check out everything happening below, and get your Christmas shopping sorted while enjoying a great day out. Senior school exams are over - big sigh of relief for teachers and students alike. This year’s New Year resolution’s coming to a close, was it a success? Work on next year’s, and make it achievable so you feel good. Mine’s getting the kettle on before 10 am and it’s been a great success, funny that.

SANTA AND HIS SLEIGH ARE IN WAIHI TOMORROW – IT’S PARADE TIME!!
With a ho, ho, ho here and lots of waves there Santa will be busy with kids of all ages trying to get his attention tomorrow with Go Waihi’s Christmas Parade with Harcourt’s Waihi. We’ve got prizes for the most Christmassy float, most Kiwi, the brightest, loudest, funniest and probably one for just turning up with a float. Community participation and involvement at its best is on display from 1 pm as the slow procession heads through the CBD, from bottom to top and back down again. Keep the kids safely off the road and enjoy all the floats with lots of people you know on board. And of course, Santa will be in the Waihi Lions float, right at the tail end of the parade. Come to Waihi and enjoy a fantastic parade and day.

IT’S MARKET TIME TOO … SHOP FOR THE FOLLOWING, AND MORE
Christmas, birthday, wedding, anniversary, congratulations, thank you, just because, for yourself; all good reasons to head to Waihi tomorrow where shops are gearing up with some fantastic specials and sales to help you with all of the above. They’ll be complemented with a variety of stalls splashed through town with even more bargains. From around 9 am until after 2 pm there’ll lots stalls, food galore at cafes, eateries and more, music with Sarah Spicer and guitar extraordinaire 15 year old Josh Durning will be performing. Add in some crazy characters we’ve heard are coming to town and the Big Parade at 1 pm, and you, your family and friends are in for a good day. Don’t miss it!

COME & HAVE A LOOK AND REGISTRATION DAY
Waihi Community Youth Trust has been busy setting up in their new Centre on the corner of Kenny and Mueller Streets. Tomorrow from 9 am until mid afternoon 5 to 16 year olds, parents and caregivers are invited to have a look around, and they’ll happily be taking registrations if you’d like to join them. They’ve got the sausages sizzling and are keen to show you some of the things they have planned. If you have anything in good nick that you would like to donate to help them as they get underway they’d really appreciate it. Things like a kettle, vacuum cleaner, couch, table and chairs, books, jug, a toaster, you know the sort of things they’ll need.

GARAGE SALE FOR THE COMMUNITY
Waihi’s Masonic Lodge just around the corner from Rosemont Rd in Kenny St has their annual Garage Sale a la Lodge tomorrow. Between 8 am and 2 pm they’ll be there selling all sorts of things to raise funds for local community projects they get in behind. There’s bound to be something there you can use, read, eat, cook with, sleep on, or put in that spot that needed something special.

AROUND 10,400 WEEKS AGO ...
The first public church service in New Zealand was held on Christmas Day in 1814, 200 years ago with Reverend Samuel Marsden in the pulpit up in Ohoi, Northland. To mark this special anniversary the combined churches of Waihi and Waihi Beach invite you, that’s everyone, to Hope Waihi, their combined service at Waihi College on Sunday. It starts at 10.30 am and is part of a nationwide celebration.

NEXT FRIDAY WAIHI’S WOMENS CHOIR ARE SINGING FOR YOU
Wella Tasma has such a keen bunch of ladies in the choir they’re doing three concerts leading up to Christmas. Next Friday they’ll be in front of Waihi Memorial Hall and you will probably know a lot of their repertoire. You should if you like Christmas carols. There’ll be a few other tunes too, and they’d love you to be there to enjoy their performance from around 11.30 am. They add a few groovy moves along the way too.

WHAT HAVE YOU GOT COMING UP – TELL ME MORE
Give me the goss, the inside info, the details of what you’re doing. Then I can put together a calendar of things coming up around Waihi. I’m looking at least 6 months ahead so give me what you’ve got, as much or as little as you have. It doesn’t matter as long as you get in touch then I can have a chat, take some details and get the word out so people wanting to find out what’s coming up can do just that. Email or call me, and let’s catch up.

HERE’S A THOUGHT: Why do we press harder on the remote control buttons when we know the batteries are flat?
