Update July 26

Winter’s a mixed bag for weather, so driving conditions will vary as well. It’s something to remember with so many vehicles on the road these days. Add the school holidays into the mix and we have a busy time that needs our full attention. It’s just a thought but if you want to eat something or use your mobile maybe it’d be an idea to pull over so you can give it your full attention; then concentrate on the road. I’m starting to notice a little extra daylight at the end of the day, but it’s still a funny feeling seeing buds on trees already.

That’s the idea for school balls, fun with friends. Waihi College will be memory central tonight with theirs, and it’s a good time to remind those going (‘cos I know as tomorrow’s leaders you keep an eye on the news and will read this) to look after each other and take your best smiles along for the photos, it should be one to remember.

We’re always interested in hearing about what’s going on around here at Go Waihi, whether it’s your monthly meeting, a new business, a fundraiser or something special you have coming up. We often get asked what’s on, who meets where and when and who to contact for more details. New arrivals to our region and visitors are often the ones who’d like more information, and locals like to know too. We also try to put these sorts of things up here on the town website. Contact Go Waihi by email at or post it to PO Box 34, Waihi 3641. Oh and make sure you include contact details won’t you.

With term three starting on Monday so do both Waihi Glee and the Waihi Adult Community Choir. Mondays from 6.30 pm to about 8 pm Waihi Community Singers get together to sing a variety of styles of music, and it’s just $3 a week to help cover costs and a good voice to join them. Fellas you’re needed too. Tuesdays between 5 pm and 6.30 pm Waihi Glee, a bunch of secondary aged boys and girls that play musical instruments, dance and sing, get together at Waihi Baptist Church Auditorium, and they’re always welcoming new members too. It’s free by the way. Fun is the most important ingredient for both these groups. Contract Angela foe details on 027 662 8826.

Here’s your reminder to get your event sorted for Goldfest throughout October. It doesn’t matter what club or group you’re with or whether your event is for adults or kids, we want it on board the celebrations. Daytime or night, weekday or weekend, an hour or a day, if it’s on, get the details in to us. Or quickly get something together that Waihi would like to do and we’ll happily add it to the programme. The more the merrier, let’s see how busy we can get.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Reincarnation is making a comeback.
