Go Waihi Goldfest 2012 with MacMahons and Trust Waikato runs right across October, with lots of events and activities.

Goldfest 2012

There are plenty of activities for school children – the young - and lots of things for adults – the young at heart – to enjoy. We’ve got some new things for you, and some of your favourites are back again too. Grab a programme from around town or you can download a Goldfest programme here.  Have a read and make a note of what you’d like to see or take part in. Remember rule No. 1 is to have FUN!

Congratulations if you entered Waihi’s Got Talent with Waihi Beach Memorial RSA, Gold FM and Go Waihi. What a fantastic finals night last Friday. The crowd really enjoyed the variety of acts, and the students all did themselves proud. The eventual junior, intermediate and senior winners took home $200 for themselves and $1000 for their school. Well done to Keelan, Brianna and Tyler and Josaye. And now the planning begins for Waihi’s Got Talent 2013!

Entries are coming in for the Go Waihi Trolley Derby with Waihi Lions on Saturday October 6. Don’t panic though; we’ll save a place for you if you send it back in soon. Then you can join the FUN. Adults, children, male and female, you’re invited to enter. We have the Emergency Services Challenge, and also the Inter Schools Kitset Challenge with Waihi Police Bluelight, Get an entry form from Waihi Library, HDC Waihi office, Gold FM or download an entry form here.

We’re gearing up for our October Go Waihi Business After 5 Meeting on Wednesday Oct 3. Waihi business owners and managers are invited to Waihi St John in Johnstone St to hear about their plans, and they’re quite big ones, for the future. If you’d like to go please email or phone Go Waihi to register.

The Guess the Number of Cadbury Crunchie Bars Competition is back! You don’t have to be an accountant to count them all in most of the Waihi shop windows over the next fortnight. There’ll be lists in some shop windows of the shops taking part, including New World, who have donated some great vouchers for the three closest entries. Entries close Monday October 15 and entry forms are in participating shops.

The Best Dressed Window Competition in the first week of October should be interesting. Will some think outside the square with springs in their display? With some great prizes for first and second, we’re looking forward to having a close look at shop windows downtown in Waihi. And it’s always good to see shop staff dressing the part, and the shop too, to add a little flavour. Judges are out next week, good luck.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Marriages are made in heaven, so are thunder and lightning.
