Update - October 29

Posted by Go Waihi on 29/10/2012

A pinch and punch and you know the rest. Another month arrives and Christmas is just under 8 weeks away. It’s senior exam month and summer sports are starting up. There’re a few snivels still around and plenty of hay fever, bless you! November’s pretty busy around our neck of the woods; here are some of the things coming up.

Waihi Drama Society takes to the stage Thursday 1st November for the first performances of two plays by Campbell Smith, who has strong links with Waihi. ‘The Red and Gold’, based in 1912, covers the Miners’ Strike that was coming to a head about now, and ‘The Miners of Waihi’ is set in 1915 and looks back at the strike and how some of the men become tunnellers in WWI. Tickets are $20 at United Video and the season runs until November 10.

Entries for the Go Waihi Stop Shop and Win $1000 Pot of Gold have closed, and this Tuesday 6th November just after 8 am someone will be getting a phone call telling them they’re $1000 better off. Waihi Police will draw the winner just after 8 am on Gold FM. Good luck if you’re entered.

Wednesday November 7th is Go Waihi’s last BA5 for 2012 is at the Waihi Sports Centre in Baker St. Sport N Action Waihi Trust has a progress report on the combined sporting complex, the Waihi Recreation and Community Centre project. There’ll be some updates on things coming up around the district, and we’ll have a casual get together at the end to wind down before the ‘silly season’. Please RSVP or phone 863 3030 if you’re a Waihi business owner or manager and would like to come.

Waihi’s 74th Annual A & P Show is on Saturday November 10, with some finals on Sunday. I hear there are some new categories this year too. There’ll be food, refreshments, stalls, sideshows and a heap of animals on show. To enter and for schedules email marilyn@ktd.co.nz or phone 07 863 8243, then get along for a great family day out.

Be part of Go Waihi’s Christmas Parade with Harcourt’s Waihi on Saturday 8 December and enter a float. Entry forms are at HDC’s Waihi office, the Waihi Library, Gold FM and at on our website. Santa’s all set; the reindeer are resting for the trip and if you’re not ON a float then be IN the crowd. Stall sites for the Market Day are available, contact Go Waihi for details.

Over a thousand entries, 262 Crunchies in the windows and 3 people just one off. Thanks to New World Waihi for sponsoring the prizes. $100 New World Waihi voucher Nina Hawker, $75 voucher Hamish McKinnon and $50 voucher Charlize Moore – and they all got lots of Crunchies. Thanks to everyone who entered, displayed crunchies and got fit walking the CBD, some several times.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: One good turn, gets most of the blankets.
