Posted by Go Waihi on 17/10/2012

Finally, we have an official public holiday, and it’s been a long time coming. The Waihi region will be busy with visitors here for the long weekend. While you’re here take advantage of all the things happening with the Go Waihi Goldfest, our month long event highlighting some of the things on offer around the district. There’s something for all ages.  If you’re travelling have a great break away and take care on the busy roads.

Was postponed last week and is now 3 pm THIS Sunday October 21st.
Will be held at Waihi Beach in front of the surf club. 3 age Categories pre-school, primary school and college age. Dig for Crunchies, chips, drinks and even an iPod Shuffle to be found in the youth section. FREE event! No spades, hands and feet only. Run by Waihi Beach Christian Centre.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday you can enjoy the 12th Annual Art Waikino Exhibition and Competition in the historic Victoria Hall. All art is for sale and proceeds go to the hall upkeep. There’s a special event on Sunday. Go Waihi and the International Academy in Golden Valley have organised a musical show featuring two gentlemen coming from Tainan City Orchestra in Taiwan. One will play the flute; the other will play the Er Hu, an ancient two stringed guitar-like Chinese instrument. They will be performing between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm.

A three day Golf Croquet Tournament at Waihi Croquet Club in Kenny St, the Waihi Association Football Club’s two day Tournament is on at Morgan Park in Kenny St and Victoria Battery Waikino is open every day with guided underground tours. You can ride the narrow gauge railway and visit the museum. On Sunday they also have Twilight Tours from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Waihi Beach School Fair’s on from 10 am to 4 pm with all the fun of the fair like zorb balls, helicopter rides, market stalls, and plenty of refreshments with a lamb on a spit and sausage sizzle, slushies and cake stalls. Waihi Beach Art Groups’ Art Exhibition is on Saturday between 10 am and 4 pm at the Waihi Beach Church Hall in the Village, featuring a variety of art styles with everything for sale. Sunday at 3 pm the postponed Big Gold Dig takes place with Waihi Beach Christian Centre in front of the surf club. And The Sterling has B-Side playing Sunday from 4 pm.

$1000 HAS TO GO
Go Waihi’s Stop Shop and Win $1000 Pot of Gold’s easy to enter. Just buy something in any store taking part, put you name and contact info in the box, and that’s it. Look for stores displaying the poster and get some great bargains at all the shops having sales at the moment.

1 pm Saturday December 8 Go Waihi’s Christmas Parade with Harcourts is taking place through the centre of town. There are plenty of good vantage points, and of course we’d like you, your group, club, church or business to build a float and be part of this fun day. And we’ve just confirmed Santa, some of his reindeer and possibly some elves too; he’ll be in the Waihi Lions float, at the tail end of the parade.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Never let a fool kiss you – or a kiss fool you.
