Update - August 1

Posted by Go Waihi on 01/08/2012

It seems like just last week I was saying August would be here soon. Buds are appearing, days are a little longer, and there are already some lambs on the scene. The Olympics are a week old and as captivating as ever. The slow motion photography has been amazing. As always it’s great to see so many things to do around our region, remember to support these events and we’ll get to enjoy more.

They’re all out on display this Saturday; bold as brass, strutting their stuff at the Waihi Beach Community Centre from 7.30 pm while everyone looks on. And they’ll be talking about for weeks I imagine. Thank goodness this is tasteful – Miss Crystal Chandelier will make sure of that - and for a worthy cause. Get any remaining tickets for Saturday’s Arty Bra Show with Waihi Beach Playcentre from La Diva in Waihi, Sunny’s in Paeroa and at Waihi Beach at Ebony. Remember there are auctions on the night, along with entertainment and spot prizes, and there’s a cash bar.

Don’t let that happen. Entry forms for the Blast Duathlons with Waihi Sport N action are already coming back. It’s probably not a silly idea to grab an entry form and see which course you’d like to do. Walk or run, on road or off, on your own or in a team, the choice is yours. Sunday September 2 is the day. Entry forms are at Waihi Events Centre and on the Waihi Multisport Website.

To fit in with other events Waihi Beach Memorial RSA has rescheduled Waihi’s Got Talent with heats on August 31, September 7 and 14, with the finals night on Friday September 21. Hey, that means entries are still open. Closing date is now August 17. It’s open to any school children living in Waihi and Waihi Beach, and there’s a new category this year for those schooled out of the area. With some fantastic prizes, and a meal voucher for everyone who enters, what are you waiting for? The world is your oyster, and this could be your meal ticket, or at least a stepping stone. Entry forms are at the Waihi Beach Memorial RSA, Gold FM, school offices around the district, or you can download an entry form.

This Sunday sees 22 teams from under 6 to 14 year olds competing on Morgan Park with the Hauraki District Rugby League Semi-finals Tournament. Teams from Piako, Whangamata, Tairua Paeroa, Mercury Bay and Waihi will play for places in the final. There’ll be some great games to watch, along with raffles and food and refreshments available. Get along and support them.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Ever just seem to not be able to get around to procrastinating?
