    Between June 19 and 30 the WW100 Tauranga mobile exhibition ‘Pick & Shovel Men’ will be on display in two shipping containers at the top of Seddon St beside the orange underground loader. Open from 10 am to 3 pm each day except when raining the exhibition recreates the experience of New Zealand Tunnellers underground in Arras during the First World War.     Wow, what a night! The longest night got a big celebration at my place, well if you don’t, who will right?     We’re just starting to see the afternoons lengthen a few minutes and before long we’ll be back into the shorts and singlet.     This month’s meeting comes with a twist, or two. Waihi Herb Society has a Mid Winter Quiz and a Mad Hatters Day coming up on Sunday July 30 at their meeting at the Salvation Army Hall at the top of Seddon St. Starting at 1 pm you’re welcome to join them and hear about herbs, soils and plants, companion planting, gardening in general and to enjoy a cuppa.     Wind, rain, some cooler temperatures, a few snivels, a fine day here and there ... let’s call it winter and have a nice hot soup, and hey, we’re at the shorter end of it now with just a month to go! Third term is underway at school, August is almost here and the countdown is on to daylight saving – I counted and it’s 67 days until we wind the clocks and watch forward an hour.
