Here we are about to sign off another month! An extended warm summer going through March and April would be welcome after what’s been higgledy piggledy (cool words!) weather over the last couple of months. Few bees due to the wet in December has seen fruit trees fruitless, the wind has affected everyone’s summer except sailors and kite flyers and the thought of going into Autumn without a good run of summery weather surely just can’t happen ... can it? Should I mention the end of the finan... Read more »
Happy St Patrick’s Day on Friday, to be sure! What a week of weather. An evacuation, some flooding, slips, swollen rivers, road closures and the good old local Kiwi spirit shining through with folk helping each other out. The countdown’s on for Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop, ECHO Walking Festival, a walk in the local cemetery, the Hack & Hunters Recycled Ribbon Day and more. WE’RE A HOP, SKIP AND A JUMP AWAYWaihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop with GO Waihi, OceanaGold, and Ha... Read more »
The end is nigh ... for the financial year that is. A pinch and punch for the start of another month, and there goes a sixth of 2017. Let’s make the most of the next 10 months and get along to events being put on, take some time to enjoy our unique part of the world and I guess start thinking about Christmas; presents and what we’re doing with holidays. Things are ticking along nicely towards Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop and we’ve got this weekend covered for kids, and adults too.... Read more »
The Ides of March are almost upon us, which is a reminder March will be half way through! Another three weeks and we’ll be winding clocks and watches back an hour with the end of daylight saving. I’m enjoying as much of the outdoors as I can while the weather’s good, we’ll not include the last few days but at least it’s warm. There are a few road works happening at the moment so give the workers a toot as you slow down to the lower speed limit, and leave a gap between cars so you donâ€... Read more »
I hope you’re rested and relaxed after the New Year celebrations and 2018 is treating you well. There’s no shortage of things to see and do, from the beach and bush to the backyard. The slip, slop, slap, wrap should be constant along with the slurp – keep that liquid intake up. From the GO Waihi team we wish you well for a fantastic, positive and successful year ahead. And if you’re visiting, come back and see us sometime soon. A big thanks to the Hauraki Herald for giving us the opportu... Read more »
With NCEA and Scholarship exams underway a ‘good luck’ seems appropriate. Although it’s the hard work not the luck that will get results. 46 days and we’ll be finding out if Santa Claus thinks we’ve behaved. Which means 55 days, or 7 weeks and 6 days and we’re looking at 2018 calendars! I hope you enjoyed the unexpected fine weather last weekend; it’d be nice if we could expect a few more. We’ve got plenty on around the Waihi district so let’s tuck into things. MOO, BAA, BLEAT,... Read more »
Wet but fairly warm is probably a fair description of the weather over the last few days. I guess the good thing with the showers and rain is that no electric cars will be running out of power in the coming months, and we should have good stocks in the hydro lakes too. That’s the plan anyway! With a change of seasons coming now’s a good time to be preparing a bit of space in the garden for the freshest, tastiest veggies we’ll ever enjoy. Away we go with the Bledisloe Cup Saturday night and... Read more »
We’re into Autumn officially after the solstice a few days ago, and hopefully a little more of the weather we’ve had for the last week plus. The wet’s definitely part of the picture, but hey, the temperatures are still pretty comfortable. We’ve kicked off Beach Hop again with a great day in Waihi and I hope the rest of the festival goes well. It’s a huge thing for the whole Coromandel and interest in the 50’s and 60’s definitely spans the generations. Rock and Roll On!! And enjoy t... Read more »
