  It’s Black Friday and fingers crossed we’re ticking along nicely, well so far so good. Superstitions are just that, he says hoping not to break a mirror or walk under a ladder. • Waikino's Village Market and Garage Sale

  From 9 am there’ll be fresh produce and plants for sale, and loads to check out. Bric a brac and china alongside clothes and shoes, furniture and old tools will fill Victoria Hall, along SH2 in Waikino. Funds raised go to the upkeep of the hall. There’s a good start to your day. Read more »

• Waihi Beach Dirt Track

  Sunday sees the Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club hold their first meet of the year. It’s their Points Day so the drivers will be hell-bent on adding more points to their tally with some hair-raising action from 11 am across the afternoon at their track next to the quarry halfway down the gorge on Waihi Beach Rd. $4 and you’re in with under 12’s free.   It’s great to see so many people enjoying the great outdoors, even if the weather has been a little ‘iffy’ across the first part of summer. Beaches are the destination for many, and bush walks have been popular too.   It’s Waitangi Day on Monday with another long weekend. I hope it gets celebrated the way it should be. It’s unique to New Zealand and an integral part of our history.   Well you can’t say summer hasn’t been visiting recently, what with 27 and 28 degree days around our part of the country.
