    Thirty five days and counting ... down rapidly, yes that’s all that’s left of 2016. That means there’s twenty eight days until we know if we’ve behaved enough for a visit from Santa Claus.     Here we are into November already, and Guy Fawkes is over for another year. I hope the animals enjoyed it. I always like the local fireworks displays from families getting together around the neighbourhood. I’m also enjoying the longer afternoons with daylight stretching out to around 8 pm already.     A three day weekend seems so long ago, maybe we can sort another one for this weekend? The holiday capital of New Zealand was the chosen destination for a lot of people. Exams for senior students kick off soon, and Christmas is on the horizon. Sorted your holidays yet?     What a week! Our thoughts go out to those affected by the massive earthquakes down south. It’s often a case in New Zealand of someone you know who knows someone who’s been affected. We’re into the serious part of the school year for seniors and we wish you the best with NCEA and Scholarship exams.   • Basketball Fundraiser

    Raising funds doesn’t have to be all hard work and no fun. A couple of Waihi senior students have been chosen to play in Under 18 representative basketball teams and need to raise $3400 each to get to Australia. Kelli and Lake invite you to answer trivia questions and have a laugh at Waihi RSA Saturday at 5.30 pm.     And here we are at the tail end of 2016, and so quickly time has passed us by. We really must be enjoying ourselves if the old saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ is true. Senior school exams are over, and the rest of schools will be off soon too.     Have you been behaving? Santa’s in the know you know. That festive feeling sure has struck around here and I love it.   • 4 x 4 National Trials Series

    Bay of Plenty 4 x 4 Club is hosting Round 2 of the National Trials Series Saturday at Mathers Farm, on Mathers Rd, off Trig Rd North. From 8.30 am across the day there’ll be about 50 top spec 4 x 4’s working their way through 30 hazards including dirty mud holes and crazy climbs. $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family with food and refreshments make this a great day out with a difference.     Santa Claus has a busy time at the moment. So do a few others preparing for the ‘silly season’ with visitors, going visiting, time to relax hopefully, a few odd jobs to get done all being diarised ... just not in my case.
