  • Update July 16

About now’s a good time to be thinking about just a little down time, you know, that period of winter where you recharge the batteries by ... fill this space. Going on holiday’s always popular, getting a weekend or two away, maybe spending time just putting the feet up; whatever it is it should be enjoyable to help break the cooler months up. Maybe a trip to the snow, when it arrives! With the school holidays on, we have an influx of visitors to our area, and what a nice place to visit, bett... Read more »

  • Update July 22

Had a couple of cold ones earlier on this week which was nice, and no, it’s not the brown ale we’re talking about, more the chilly mornings with ice on the windscreen of cars left outside overnight. The holiday weather has behaved quite well overall, hopefully the kids have too. As August approaches the first signs of spring are well and truly already here. Daffodils and lambs are out and about, and quite a few people are too. Now, where’s the snow? HOW MANY TICKETS ARE LEFT?I have no idea... Read more »

  • Update July 29

Another couple of months and we’ll see the return of daylight saving. And it’s also the Spring Equinox in exactly 8 weeks too. So, by my calculations Labour Weekend is 12 weeks away, and dare I say it, Christmas will sneak up quickly in only 21 weeks and 2 days. Not one for numbers but I’d hazard a guess that means 2017 won’t be far behind! I hope you’re getting out and about in between the odd shower. Good luck to the teams who are in the Thames Valley Rugby finals tomorrow. I hear fr... Read more »

  • Update August 5

OK, own up, who knows where July went? Wow that was fast! We must be enjoying ourselves. We’re enjoying a mild winter so far, and the weather’s supposed to stay fairly warm over the next three months too. It doesn’t mean we won’t get a cold day or three, and we’ve still got some rain to come, but cast your mind back a month or two when we were enjoying fine weather and all the talk was about the lack of rain. We’ll be into another season before you can say ‘Merry Christmas’ ...... Read more »

  • Update August 12

Here we are into double figures for August already, and a colder day or two under our belt. “Nippy, chilly, refreshing” are a few descriptions of the icy starts earlier this week, oh yes, there were a few others which described it fairly well that I haven’t included due to the family nature of this column! We’ll be into another season before you can say ‘Merry Christmas’ ... I hope. I’ll be looking at hitting the beaches again pretty soon, just maybe not the water, unless there’s... Read more »

  • Update August 19

A crisp morning or two, some beaut afternoons, lots of sunshine and the thought of a BBQ not too far off; things are looking good at the moment. We’re getting our fair share of medals at the Olympics and I’m a little sleep deprivated, but that’s OK. It’s one of those times you get to see the ‘minor’ sports like javelin, diving, pole vault and the gymnastics to name just a few, with the best on show, which is great. I’m looking forward to the Heartland Rugby Competition, good luck t... Read more »

  • Update August 25

What a fantastic Olympics, especially for the Kiwis; medals where we didn’t expect them and support from everyone for all our competitors shows the care and consideration by our representatives. Congrats to the whole team for a job well done. Windscreen wipers on, then off, shorts one day long johns the next; it’s definitely spring weather we’re experiencing and the wardrobes reflect that. Should we mention the amount of pollen around at the moment or will that bring the itchy eyes and sne... Read more »
