Date: Wednesday 22 March, 2017

In the Waihi CBD, roads will be closed and the streets filled with hundreds of classic cars and hot rods, people dancing and enjoying the atmosphere and lots dressing up for the occasion. Dozens of stalls will add to the glittering array of goods and products that the shops have on sale. It’s a fun day whether you’re into cars or not. There’ll be three bands playing through the day and plenty of food and refreshments through the cafes, restaurants and eateries, together with even more food stalls.

THE WHERE & WHEN FOR WEDNESDAY

8 am the roads close downtown in Waihi. Shops and stalls will be set to go by 9 am. At 10.30 am the convoy of 500 plus hot rods and classic cars arrive from the top of town and drive through the CBD to their parks for the day. 11.15 am Waimata School will be entertaining you in front of the Memorial Hall. Gerry Lee and Rick-O-Chet will be pounding out the sounds all day from there too. In Rosemont Rd Al and the Wild Katz will rock out the sounds while Tim and the Rockets are in the Pumphouse pumping out rock n roll all day.

At 12.30 pm the Gold FM Drag Race gets underway in Seddon St with prizegiving straight afterwards in front of the hall. Prize giving with the Best Dressed Male and Female, Boy and Girl starts at 2.15 pm, with the presentation of the Best Classic Car and Best Hot Rod Trophies then too. Streets reopen at 3 pm, so make sure your car is off the road well before then if you’re part of the day.
