This is your invitation from the Waihi Branch of the NZ Society of Genealogists. With excerpts from 38 films and a variety of still images, this 70-minute film covers New Zealand’s experience of the First World War. Gathered from archives from New Zealand, Australia, the United States and United Kingdom it covers life prior to the war, soldiers training and departing, shipboard life along with footage of NZEF soldiers in Egypt, Gallipoli, Europe and the Middle East. There’re even rare glimpses of life at the home front in New Zealand, including the first conscription ballot, fundraising activities and more. $5 is well worth it, with afternoon tea included. It’s on at 1 pm this Wednesday (23rd August) at Waihi Arts Centre and Museum in Kenny St.
