Waihi's Annual Goldfest celebrations are on again right through October from the 1st to the 31st, with something to suit everyone.

This very popular festival has grown over the years and last year we had over 80 events and activities for people to enjoy.   Whether it's the Market Day and Annual Trolley Derby on Saturday October the 8th, the gecko displays and gold panning on the 14th or Oktoberfest at Waitete Restaurant on the 29th, Waihi has something on to encourage all ages to take part. There are 'give it a go' sports days, the Amazing Race, a Hollywood Ball for 9 to 14 year olds, Maori carving and Taiaha lessons and special train trips for families aboard our Goldfields Railway.

A lot of events are free, while others charge a small fee to cover their costs. There are competitions and activities for children of all ages, and plenty on for adults too. Participation is a big thing with Goldfest, and we encourage families to take part. We'll be holding our Best Dressed Window Competition throughout town again over the school holidays, which always attracts a lot of attention. This year as the World Cup Rugby Tournament is on at the same time we have opened the theme up to include Gold and Black, with an emphasis on time, effort and creativity rather than money spent.
