Diarise Sunday January 17th, and head down in to the Martha Mine with Newmont Waihi Gold's Open Day.
These days are definitely numbered. Will it be the last opportunity to do this? No-one knows so don't miss out. There will be lots to see and do, and it's one of those must do's. We will keep you posted as it gets closer, but make sure you let your friends know. Where else can you do this but in the town with a Heart of Gold.
There's been a lot of behind the scenes preparation going on and it will all culminate with a great day for locals and visitors to get inside the fence line and head literally into a working mine.
There will be experts there to explain the running of different departments, the chance to rock fossick and pan for real gold, as well as get some exercise walking down to (nearly) the bottom. Sturdy, or stout as some say, shoes are advisable, and probably a hat and sunscreen would be a good idea.
